Has anyone had hypnotherapy for anxiety?

Just that really. Won’t go in to my history but I have tried CBT and don’t get on with it, don’t want medication, currently in therapy but I’m desperate and thinking hypnotherapy is not something that I have tried and willing to try anything.

I have read it’s mostly for addiction and fears etc but can be used for anxiety..

Didn't work for me I'm afraid.

Following as I’m at my wits end with flipping anxiety 😟

@Goinglala22 I can’t comment on my future but i had my apt Today and it was actually quite mind blowing. I realised an awful lot of things during it and can now accept some things that happened were not my fault. I have a recording to listen to every night for 21 days….

Everyone saying CBT. What happens when CBT just doesn’t work? I pushed for a psych referral and was refused by the hospital, yet now been told by the community service they suspect I have OCD. I have always suspected my issues were deep routed due to childhood trauma, maybe more so than OCD and health anxiety, yet I keep pushed round and round on this CBT merry go round, pointlessly.

@Justthinkin hopefully this reaches you. Would love an update on how you are? Going through very similar at the moment

@Thehousewiththeyellowdoor well it’s been quite a journey for sure. I had 2 sessions with that therapist and it was very helpful, all about the inner child. It helped me come to terms with some things and showed me it was not my fault, however it didn’t help me with the current time. I carried on my talking therapy and then about 2 months ago I came across a different hypnotherapist who focuses on what you want (the future) as apposed to what you don’t want (the past) so she works differently to the previous one. I have a recording I listen to each night and have had a few appointments and I do feel it has helped me. It is a slow process I’m not going to lie, but has given me hope that I can sort my head out. I’m still in my relationship, thank god!!

Hi, I came across this thread tonight. I suffer from anxiety and PTSD, tried CBT before, been put on ADs (to prevent panic attacks), I do yoga and breathing exercises, you name it...CBT didn't help me, much like the OP. ADs took the edge off but didn't address the root cause. Exercise wasn't enough to cure me.

I tried hypnotherapy few weeks ago and it's had a major positive impact on my confidence, wellbeing, sleep and reduced mu anxiety. I'd recommend giving it a go.

@Berlioze heya, how r u now? Would u recommend hypnotherapy

Berlioze · 28/09/2023 12:35

Hi, yes, still good, in fact better than I've been in a long time. I am still having my sessions but I will be finished soon and then will see how it goes. It's been a game changer for me.
