I have a medication review coming up and could like to know for those of you who have PRN/As needed meds for use to prevent crisis, what you take and is it any good.
Currently on 3 x 25mg Promethazine a day for the constant generalised anxiety but it just isn't cutting it for the sudden intense dips which results in A and E visits.

A lot of people say promethazine is not good. But it is only an antihistamine that has the ability to make people a bit drowsy. It does nothing for me at all. I take quetiapine at night but I have some small dose tablets for during the day as and when I need them

I have diazapam for as needed- they generally give me 2 tablets every time I pick my meds up (I'm on 2 daily pick ups so it's essentially one a day)

I have lorazepam as an as needed med. It helps take the edge of when I'm spiralling. I generally get prescribed 4 at a time and am under instruction to call my care coordinator if I've had to take them.

I have Schizoaffective disorder, I'm on anti psychotics etc but need a prn med when I feel extra paranoid..

I tried Lorazepam but it's no good for when I'm at work (which is when my symptoms are worse) as it makes my speech slurred, so I take Promethazine.
Unfortunately I'm not finding one tablet any good now, it doesn't even relax me so my psychiatrist said to try two 25mg together on my day off and see how that goes.
I also keep practicing my breathing techniques for all the good it does.

I had quetiapine PRN for c-ptsd,which is an antipsychotic medication.

If you don't feel the promethazine is working perhaps they will consider trying a different med?

Sometimes meds can be a bit of trial and error, not every drug works for every person.
I went through 3 different meds before finding the right combination that worked for me.
