Fluxotine making me worse? Please help

15 days on Fluxotine and feel even worse…last night I felt terrible and suicidal. Should I keep pushing on with tablets in the hope it will get better? Or just stop. Has anyone ever been through this? I feel so unbelievably lost

I was on it about 20 years ago. Bad enough to be forced to only pick up 3 days at i tome so i wasnt tempted to o.d with them. ARound 4 weeks in it was like fog had lifted. Nothing had changed but i didnt care about problems. Just gave me chance to think or not think but not have that crushing weight all the time. Hopefully this will happen for you too. Was on them for about a year .
Keep in there if you can

@Robertplantgoddess glad it worked for you. I am at the 4 week mark on it now and I can’t say I feel that way yet, but i find some of the side effects easing. I pray I don’t have to change again and hoping it kicks in soon.

Did any one else’s weight pile on with fluxotine?

Fluoxetine made me feel worse before I noticed a change. Might be worth persevering for a few weeks and if you feel worse or don't notice an improvement then check in with your GP

I was the same. I started to feel a sense of normality a good six to eights weeks. In the beginning I felt like I had to flee from my own body somehow. I was shaky tearful and anything could set me of in tears. It won't last long and once you are over the worst bit you will do much better. Your dosage might need tweaking at some point. I found a higher dose made me more edgy and the dose I'm on now 40mg once a day feels perfect for me. You are not alone in this. If you don't feel and relief or you feel really off, get in touch with your gp.

Hi lovely just checking in on you. Hope you are ok 🫶🏾

Goinglala22 · 06/10/2022 05:21

@GirlInTheMirror27 hi, thank u so much for checking in. Really not ok, up with shocking bad anxiety here. Like the worse I’ve had in years. Feel like I’m taking a complete breakdown. Yesterday doctor suggested mirtazapine instead. I’m so confused and I think it’s really putting my head away about the whole thing.. wondering and wondering ‘why isn’t this working…. Should I try these others ones….’ My head hasn’t rested. I could scream I don’t know what to do.Read reviews on mirtazapine and they are shockingly bad for a lot of people. I don’t want to take them. I missed my dosed of fluxotine yesterday as I was scared to take it. I’m so unbelievably lost. Do I wean myself off them completely? Doctor wasn’t great yesterday and my normal GP isn’t back to next week.

That’s Prozac isn’t it? No SSRI ever helped me, only SNRI. I’m not a doctor but venlafaxine was the game changer for me.

Goinglala22 · 06/10/2022 05:29

Told Doctor I don’t think SSRI’s agree with me, I was so hopeful/nervous/excited to try citalopram before the summer, after 10 weeks or so I stopped as no difference and switched to fluxotine, nearly 5 weeks on it now and it’s awful, very odd day I could see a glimmer of hope then back to square one. I’ve zero motivation on them either. My summer has been a blur, waiting and waiting for this miracle that hasn’t came. I spent my days searching through Google wondering what to take next. I just don’t know anymore. I really am lost. So when I told doctor yesterday I didn’t think they agreed with me he said try mirtazapine. Other doctor that I like had prescribed this around May time but I didn’t take as I was adamant I didn’t AD’s but in June I said I’d try Citalopram. The plan of action yday in to take 10mg of fluxotine for a week instead of 20mg…then after the 7th day introduce mirtazapine and take it for a week along side the fluxotine then after another week come off the fluxotine so I am purely on the mirtazapine. I read reviews on them thought and the mood swings, weigh gain etc is meant to be very bad. I think this is why I am like this tonight. My head is a mess

OP posts:
LHReturns · 06/10/2022 05:33

I hear you. Mirtazapine is quite old fashioned, and especially known for weight gain. How many weeks have you been on fluoxetine now?

Goinglala22 · 06/10/2022 05:33

@LHReturns i am glad they helped you. Were you the same on SSRI’s? I feel absolutely horrific here and was trying to be sick with anxiety. I’ve took a 2mg of diazepam to help. I can’t go on like this. I want everything to be ok again

OP posts:
Goinglala22 · 06/10/2022 05:37

@LHReturns was on citalopram for 10 weeks or so and now headed towards my 5th week on fluxotine. They are making me worse. I then think should I persevere and hopefully they will begin to work, but after this episode this morning, no I don’t think I can. They were making me think suicidal thoughts too. I know I wouldn’t actually do it as I have precious DC, but I’m scared, just so unbelievably scared

Ok, don’t panic. There will be a good drug for you. By 5 weeks you should be feeling much better. Is your GP good? Can you ask about trying a SNRI like venlafaxine? Will GP listen to you?

SSRIs just never did much for me….just….meh.

Goinglala22 · 06/10/2022 18:47

@LHReturns Its quite hard to get the docs I want. Yesterday it was a doctor who I don’t usually deal with. He told me to go off the fluxotine and straight onto the other. I said no I want to wean off them as I couldn’t deal with anymore side effects. He told me to take 20mg every other day instead of everyday, but then agreed to give me liquid fluxotine and I will take 10mg of it a day for a week(it tastes horrible) then start the Mirtazapine with it for a week then go off the fluxotine. But I’m going to ring in morning again and hopefully they will let me try venlafaxine. Reviews good on it also. Meant to be terrible to come off though

LHReturns · 06/10/2022 18:54

Good - I think it is worth asking a doctor about SNRIs before you make a final decision. Ask about Venlafaxine and also Duloxetine, which is also excellent.

Yes Venlafaxine is tough to come off - but I don’t plan to any time soon. (It sounds to me like you need to focus on feeling good again anyway - don’t worry about beyond that).

I went through an entire pregnancy on Venlafaxine under the care of a big name Harley St psychiatrist- perfect healthy pregnancy and baby. Just mentioning in case that was also a concern.

MinervaTerrathorn · 06/10/2022 19:04

I could never get on SSRIs because of the side effects, I tried several. I was on venlafaxine for six months or so, which kept being increased until I was on 375mg. That made me like a zombie, I couldn't feel happy or sad, I had to come off it as I couldn't live like that. Withdrawal was scary.

I now take lion's mane mushroom powder in my coffee that keeps me feeling calm, but normal calm.

Gosh you poor thing - 375mg is vv high. I’m on 150mg which seems to be enough for me on both depression symptoms but especially for my extreme anxiety.

I love lions mane too - I take a supplement of that! Not that well known is it?

It wasn't doing much at lower doses, it was above the maximum so the GP had to phone for authorisation to prescribe it (overseas, not sure how it works here). I was only 18/19!

I'm in circles where lots of people use natural medicines so that's how I found out about lions mane.
