Have you ever read a self-help book that’s worked?

Just that. Wondering if anyone can say their mental health has significantly improved after reading a book (or similar).

Thanks all for your recommendations! I’ve just bought Self Help for your Nerves on Kindle and looking forward to getting started.

@DoodlePug I’m particularly interested in books dealing with anxiety, negative thoughts, or assertiveness/dealing with difficult people.

I found this very helpful on assertiveness and saying no. It doesn't get very deep and psychological but gives some good strategies.

Claire Weeks isn't an instant program for anxiety, for sure, but it does show you the way out of a nervous breakdown and it has worked well for me. I also got the audiobooks, she has a very old-fashioned Australian posh voice, but I found it comforting to listen to when I was too tired to read. I also reread key bits daily just to make myself feel better. I think she was such a brilliant person, but her advice is not easy to take, she acknowledges this and is very compassionate towards those who are struggling.

Also Feel the Fear and Do it Anyway, lightbulb moment

Second Feel the Fear by Susan Jeffers. Totally changed my life - gave me so much courage that I do things now I never thought possible.

Thanks all! I’m stocking my kindle library 😊

I must say, not a book but I’ve been finding Paul McKenna’s Everyday Bliss course very helpful for my anxiety, it’s available on the MindValley app, which is expensive, but you get a two-week full refund promise (and you can complete the course in two weeks… just saying 😉)
