Sertraline - Teeth grind/clench advice

I started sertraline last week, I’m on half tablets at the mo so 25mg (50mg split). Take it with food at midday (I have gabapentin in the morning and didn’t want to overload meds but could change if would help?).

bascually I had jaw pain 10 years ago, it was a nightmare it became chronic and took a soft diet for 6 months to get rid of. Now I’ve started the sertraline it’s come back with a vengeance very quickly. But apart from that I feel really good already so I feel like I really need this but my jaw pain was severe and chronic and I’m scared of going back there.

any tips on reducing the clenching grinding? Does it wear off or do you still have it?

GP said to just see how I go and wasn’t much help, I don’t think he realises how debilitating the jaw pain gets when bad.

any advice and experiences welcome!

Not sertraline but I have it with fluoxetine. Been on it for a few years and still got it.

Stick your tounge between your teeth it helps break the cycle for a little bit. Doesn't help at night mind

I got a retainer for night time, so I don’t damage my teeth - really helps

I can’t advise on the medication but I’ve been fitted with a protective mouthguard to sleep in and I no longer wake up with an aching jaw.

Have you talked to a dentist?

Sertraline changed my life, but the jaw clenching/pain was difficult in the first few weeks, and again whenever my dose was increased. I got a mouth guard to wear at night, and tried to be more conscious of relaxing my jaw during the day. I did find it got better and I did it less with time. Good luck.
