heat wave anxiety

Is anyone else really anxious during/leading up to the heat wave? I find 25°C too hot, let alone these extreme temperatures.

It isn't meant to get to 40°C this time but school holidays makes for different challenges.

Wanting to know it's not just me, I suppose, though tips on keeping us/house cooler won't hurt if you have any (& things to do with child in the heat so we don't get fed up). Thanks! 🙂

Yes I’m dreading it too OP, particularly with everything already so dry and parched. My flat is like a greenhouse and there are so many idiots around having BBQs. On the positive side though It will just be four days though and then it will break. Just take one day (one hour) at a time and it will be over soon.

Yes, I find hot weather really overwhelming and I get quite panicky. Cannot tolerate heat at all.

Me! I've just been looking at my weather app (again) and getting all panicked about the next 4-5 days, 33-36 predicted.

I've no idea what to do with the kids as they find it too hot, no sleep and headaches for me until next Tuesday!

Thank you! Sorry that you each find it difficult too but thanks for replying.

@shivermetimbers77 one day at a time is good advice, thank you. I'll also remind myself that we got through the last time although it wasn't pleasant.

The risk of drought and the fires are worrying.

But let's think positive. We've had windows open overnight and it's cooled the house a bit (will shut when it starts to get warmer). I'll try to drink plenty of water and get DD to do the same. Hats and sun stuff if we have to go out, and try to keep it to before 11am if I can or to air con buildings/shade.

I think lots of people feel this way, we do not have regular experience of dealing with it regularly (yet) so it is still a shock to the system.

The best things to do are:
-plan
-prepare
-minimise what you have to do (e.g. buy food that requires little cooking)
-focus on keeping calm and moving slowly

We have changed our plans for this week. We have a short activity (booked course) every day but where if it was cooler we would do something afterwards, we are going to slowly walk home and do something quiet instead. It is completely acceptable and sensible to slow down your plans to take account of the heat.

@carefullycourageous thank you, good advice!

Drank more water today, was able to go somewhere with air con for a few hours. Avoided going outside more than we had to until the sun was lower. Trying to reduce water overuse though (quick showers, limited watering in the garden).

Did quite well until evening when I'd overheated the kitchen and myself, so tempers frayed slightly. (DH away so just us).

2 or 3 days down, 3 maybe 4 to go. 😬

Good stuff, I think the aircon hunting is a good idea if it does really get to you.

If you can cope with one day you can cope with multiple.
