Any tips to relieve jaw clenching?

Any tips would be appreciated, it is a side effect of sertraline but other than this I feel it is by far the best medication for me so I don't want to come off it. I don't think I'm doing it at night but notice often during the day my jaw is tensed or I am biting the inside of my cheek on one side. It can be painful. I've made a dentist appointment to talk to them. Just wondered if anyone had any tips. TIA x

I don’t sorry. I’ve been on Sertraline for nearly a year and teeth grinding (so similar to jaw clenching) is the only side effect that’s continued. Isn’t it weird?!

It is! And I feel so great on it otherwise, I really don't want to come off it or switch!

you can get a night guard for your mouth. I had this too due to anxiety for a few yeas, it's called Bruxism and mine was so bad it effected my ears, hearing and balance. I even had an MRI scan because no one could work out what was wrong with me.

Guards can help, but don't do what i did and get a cheap one from amazon, they're rubbish. I do weird jaw excersises when i feel it coming on to try and stretch and relax my jaw. Good luck OP.

This will sound random but if your rotator cuff is weak, you might find you clench your teeth when doing things with your arms, particularly if above your head (drying your hair, painting a ceiling etc), as clenching your jaw stabilises your shoulder joint. So might be worth working on your rotator cuff strength

I clench my jaw through the day, I work from home and do it when I’m concentrating, at least when I was I the office I had distraction, started getting headaches, chewing gum helps.
