What can I expect from the GP?

I've plucked up the courage to see the doctor and have an appointment tomorrow evening to talk about my mental health.

I'm 46, perimenopausal and really struggling with panic attacks.
I also feel very low and tearful (I have a lot going on in my life).
I just feel I need that bit of extra support.

I'm really nervous about speaking to the doctor tomorrow and just wondered what to expect?

Hi, I hope you are ok. I know it sounds silly but well done for reaching outFlowers

I've been to see various different GP over the years about my anxiety & depression & they have all been very kind & understanding so please try not to worry too much (easy to say I know!)

For myself, sometimes they've offered talking therapies, sometimes they've offered AD's, sometimes they've offered an appointment with the MH worker (who I've always found incredibly kind & helpful also)

Just my experience but I hope it helps a little.

Aw I'm sorry your feeling like this. I'm in the same boat being peri. I expect the first thing they will suggest is antidepressants but you should give HRT a try. Alot of doctors just take the easy route. I personally take an AD called citalopram and it has helped with my hormonal symptoms, it just lifts the majority of the cloud so to speak. I know alot of women who take ADs along with HRT. It's really up to you. Hope you get it sorted :)
