How do you know if you have PTSD?

Can you get it from a miscarriage? I experienced a very traumatic miscarriage last month and been feeling very detached from other people like I'm behind a wall, had some nightmares, intrusive thoughts.... Just generally not feeling myself, like my brain isn't right. I wouldn't say it was interfering day to day but Ive had people at work say they are worried about me and ended up sobbing to manager as just not felt right all week. HR offered me help from occupational health to see what support I may need but that feels a bit unnecessary and over the top.

I'm really sorry about your miscarriage and yes, you could absolutely be experiencing PTSD.

Nightmares, intrusive thoughts, feeling detached - please do take up the offer of help from occupational health. I worked through PTSD with a therapist after trauma and it really helped. It's not OTT to be supported when you've had a traumatic event, it's vital self care. If your colleagues are noticing and you're not feeling right, then something isn't working properly - be kind to yourself. There is light on the other side of this xx
