Ocd getting worse…

a couple of years ago I started to check things eg power points, front door,,etc. it’s getting worse and can take multiple attempts to leave the house now. I sometimes even photograph things but then don’t believe the photo. I’ve been doing cbt & erp but it’s absolutely useless.

Does anyone else have any idea of effective treatment?

Which one are you on? You might need to adjust the dose

Medication like clomipramine can help some but it's an old school antidepressant

Wondering25 · 09/06/2022 23:18

@LapinR0se fluoxetine

Thanks for the comments so far. Sounds like the sides effects of Clomipramine are quite bad!

My ocd is in over drive too - it’s awful isn’t it mine is inadvertently harming someone and as I work with food this isn’t great so I overthink and wash my hands and question every procedure to the max I’ve removed myself from this career in the main but got to deal with something today
i have been prescribed propranolol to take if I get really really anxious as apparently it calms you right down
im scared to take it but put it in my bag today as feeling particularly bad as triggered by something that’s tipping me over the edge
maybe worth a try ?

I took sertraline. Had the exact same as you but luckily for me the advent of the smartphone/taking photos (and CBT) completely solved it and I no longer suffer with OCD at all. Check out a website called getselfhelp.org - great worksheets available there to help you rationalise.

Oh and @fartooanxiousfortoday do take the propranolol - it’s a very gentle way of treating anxiety and is so effective in calming the physical symptoms (racing heart, sweaty palms, that awful scared feeling in your chest)

fartooanxiousfortoday · 10/06/2022 09:30

@PizzaPatel do you take it - i really needed top take it last night but because it will be the first time was worried i would have major side effects ! theres the worry ocd for you !

PizzaPatel · 10/06/2022 20:40

yes - propranolol was a life saver for me for many years. I don’t need it anymore but it set me on the path to getting better long term

@PizzaPatel thank you
I will definitely give it a go
@Wondering25 i hope you find some peace
