My daughter had covid in March. Less than 2 weeks later she’s developed extreme ocd behaviour (hoarding, rituals, routines, sequences). It’s getting worse as the weeks go by. GP appointment tomorrow. It’s extremely debilitating for her and incredibly distressing to witness. I’m doing my best to support her but now running on empty as all my energy is going into helping her. It’s taking it’s toll on us all. I need some help but don’t know where to turn as so out of my depth. Has anyone experienced this in their child? Does it get easier? Can she get better? Thanks x

OP, please look up PANDAS syndrome in kids. It presents like this and is temporary I think?

Have you read about PANDAS. In precovid times this was the neuro disorder some children got after infections. Though, it might have been bacterial. Anyway it may be of interest. We know lots of viruses impact neurologically.

I too saw the title and thought PANDAS!

Thanks so much for replies. I hadn’t heard of pandas, just looked it up. It seems to fit, so it could have been covid? I had no idea infections could cause this. So it could be short-lived? I’ll mention this to GP tomorrow. Thank you. Has anyone got direct experience if this? Wondering how it plays out?

I wanted to come back and update after all your helpful responses. My daughter saw the GP and yesterday saw a paediatrician too. There’s nothing in medical literature to confirm it was triggered by covid but most likely diagnosis is that this was an immune response. She’s so much better now. He described it as an acute episode and generally these are one-off. He said it falls under the umbrella of PANDAS. He’s going to research the covid jab too to see if it will benefit daughter (ie whether it could trigger another response or protect her). Thanks so much all x
