Can't cry on sertraline

Has anyone switched anti depressants due to emotional blunting?
My sertraline has been fantastic for low mood and anxiety, but I just never cry on it. I can't get that release, the sort that comes with watching a good old tear jerker movie and sobbing away!
I know it's a relatively small price to pay, but it's bothering me. Just wondered if anyone else had experienced it?

I’m more resilient on sertraline and feel very level but have been upset with two bereavements. Maybe try a slightly lower dose?

Yes, I know what you mean! I've been on it for about 5 years now (started for peri-menopause symptoms as a last resort when I was apparently too young for HRT). Honestly cannot remember the last time I cried. It's got to the point where, even though I logically remember that past events made me sad or upset at the time, I really can't 'feel' what those feelings were like, or 'feel' what others would feel. It's one of the reasons why I'm aiming to slowly reduce the dose and eventually stop them. How long have you been taking them?

I can’t really, I’ve cried once since September. Just as well really, as if I started I’d never stop.

I've just come across this thread while looking for something else to do with Sertraline.

I've been on it for 2 years for anxiety and depression. It literally changed my life. I can honestly say I've never been happier or more content.
Only side effects for me were difficulty reaching orgasm.
I've been weaning myself off them for 9 weeks now, and this is my first week of taking none.
My mood is horrendous and I cannot stop crying.
I don't remember crying (or wanting to) once since I started taking them.

I don't know what to do now.
Worried that I need them to function like a normal person Sad

@Furrybutts is there any reason why you are weaning yourself off them? I fully expect to be on them for life now.

I weaned myself off them because I knew my review was due next month, and I felt so amazing while taking them that I thought I was 'fixed'
I have started back on them today.

I've been taking it for years and I cry loads, too much if anything. Blush Different medications suit different people though, chat to your doctor and maybe try another?

@Furrybutts well done for realising what you need 🥰.

Yes. It’s very hard to not be able to cry! It is almost like having a huge padlock on my heart. Pleased to say slowly and sensibly weaning off them under docs orders. Look after yourself. 💐🌷

I have just accessed mumsnet to see if I could find an answer to this question. I want to cry sometimes but the tears don't come.

If it’s bothering you, it’s worth having a conversation with your doctor about possibly adjusting your dosage or trying a different medication. Remember, it’s important to find a balance where you can manage your symptoms while still feeling like yourself. You’re not alone in this!
