Hoarding and social services

Don't know if anyone has experienced this and can advise. I have a relative who has MH issues. Part of this is hoarding but also medically that they are not that healthy. They have self referred themselves to social services for home based OT as they are struggling to walk far, get out the bath etc.

How likely is it that this referral would trigger further action on the hoarding?

I would think it depends on how much of a health and safety risk it poses to the relative and whether it impedes day to day life. Ie. If they cannot cook or wash safely or is a fire or emergency escape hazard.

I would think that SS would have a duty of care to any staff attending the property, so I suppose it depends upon how bad it is.
Have you thought of contacting SS confidentially yourself ?

I did think about contacting them as well but I think I will see what happens. She seems to have suddenly realised she is vulnerable so she or organising a key safe and a panic alarm. She has had the door broken down before to get to her and it would have happened a couple more times if I hadn't rushed round with keys. She also has fire brigade coming round but has had that before. Not sure what the point is as it won't change anything re hoarding

I'm not sure how much of a risk they would perceive her as - it's not at a point where she cannot cook or wash but they are quite unsanitary conditions (we to me although not as bad as the ones you see on the tv clearance programmes) my worry is quite health related as she doesn't walk anywhere so puts on weight and they can't walk far. I actually don't think she's far off being housebound.
