Childhood trauma healing

Hi,

I just wanted some advice on how other people who have experienced childhood trauma have gone about healing?

I have gone down the counselling/therapy route and it isn't suited to me (I've tried different counsellors) I would prefer to hear about other approaches.

Thank you

Hi op,

I’m in long term therapy, like you have previously tried different approaches which failed due to NHS incompetence & being incorrectly diagnosed. Currently I am doing Internal Family Systems/Parts Work & have been working from The Janina Fisher workbook Transforming The Living Legacy Of Trauma, my therapist utilises different approaches, I’m basically learning about how my system runs, putting my ‘self’ in charge instead of letting my traumatised parts run my life.

Releasing trauma, PolyVagal exercises might interest you, Suki Baxter has great exercises & more information on this

Peter Levine who works on the somatic approach is worth a look.

Pete Walker is also worth a look www.pete-walker.com

This is the founder of Internal Family Systems, interesting article if you’re interested in reading about it

Hello again, just wanted to add a link to Ian Wrights episode of Home Truths, he bravely talks about his traumatic childhood, particularly at 23 mins in where he visits a trauma specialist, I found this bit incredibly powerful & helpful as I was at the same point in my life as he was. Go easy with watching this & reading the links I posted before as they can be very triggering.

If I get through this shit state of mind I’m in I’ll be following with interest.
Family fucks you up like crazy, perhaps finding equally fucked up people is a better solution than trying to fix yourself. I’m sorry this is my depressed mind speaking. Just had enough for now. Really, really enough.

@Notmyyearthisyear I hear you, don’t be sorry, you’re here, you’re already making changes by reaching out. You’re allowed to have had enough, take that anger, turn it around & throw it back in their direction, they failed you, it’s not your fault!
