COVID, war in Europe and climate crisis

Hi, similar to some other threads, but just posting as feeling very wobbly and worried indeed about everything, specifically the future for our kids in light of pandemics, worsening climate crisis and of course the terrible war in Ukraine. Feels like everything I have ever worried about has come true, with a vengeance. Know others are feeling the same, don't want to make anyone feel worse Sad

Hi, didn't want you to feel unnoticed. Sorry you are feeling like this. I'm anxious about all three as well.

I'm feeling a bit more positive today (I have ups and downs) and am going to rejoin this thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/feeling_depressed/4213314-healthy-eating-gardening-anxiety

would you like to as well? Perhaps some of the suggestions there can help take our minds off the worry for a bit. There might also be small things we can do to feel like we are playing some part in countering the problems eg. helping a refugee charity or eco friendly changes at home. I know it won't reverse it but it's something.

dizzydizzydizzy · 03/03/2022 15:15

I feel much the same.

dizzydizzydizzy · 03/03/2022 15:18

I'm doing relaxing things that make me happy - Eg waking in nature

Hi, sorry you are having a hard time. I have severe mi so I do understand. Take control of what you can: work on what is within your sphere. Stay offline! Don't watch the news, just check in once a day. Most news now is speculative. Get outside if at all possible, eat as well as possible and get as much exercise as pss, even ten minutes yoga or a short walk. Look at the birds. Notice the small things. Yes, things seem grim and this is important: perspective! It's important to remember that we are, in fact, in a much better position than most of the humans that have ever lived and that are alive rn. Doesn't diminish your suffering to try to acknowledge this. If it helps, then write to your MP, campaign for what issue worries you, but always focus most on what you can actually do.

I find swimming very helpful too.

LifesABotch · 03/03/2022 21:56

Thanks everyone, these are all helpful suggestions and the moral support is also helpful. @HelloMist thanks, the thread looks good . Garden in urgent need of tidying, in actual fact! Good that you've felt slightly more positive Smile.
@dizzydizzydizzy I hope you are ok, it is all overwhelming. Love swimming too, never get the chance though...
@beattieedny thanks, and you are right about perspective and enjoying the small things. Staying offline is hard, but yes advisable! The way "WW3" is being thrown around in the media isn't helpful to anyone, imo. Must feel as though it's already happening in Ukraine. Yes we are loads better off than our ancestors, just have to look at Horrible Histories!!

@LifesABotch, very best wishes to you. Life's rarely easy, no matter our luck! But we're in it together. You seem like a kind person, which is probably why you find it hard, lol. Hang on in there.

Hang in there! It really is tough to keep going at the moment, so many of us are feeling it.

Hi op, I’m there with you, feeling the same, very triggering isn’t it. I do this Polyvagal exercise when I start to spiral it resets the sympathetic nervous system, very effective

Just watching gentle stuff on youtube like cat trains or watching people on their travels also helpful.

Hi, sorry to hear you're feeling the strain too. Thanks so much for the link, hadn't heard of this (do yoga and know the usual breathing techniques.) Useful to have other tools to use, especially quick ones in a pinch! And yes should get better at watching calming things rather than news from Ukraine all the time Thanks
