So my lovely DS(14) was admitted into hospital last night after he tidied the kitchen of knives in case he slept walk (he doesn't sleep walk) and because he is convinced he is a clone. This morning he is avoiding breakfast in case either I or the nurses poisoned it. It gets worse.

I need to tell someone how upset and worried I am. Literally all my family and friends have other medical (terminal cancer, recovering from stroke) stuff going on.its shit and truly shit.

Were waiting on camhs this morning. Can anyone tell me what might happen next?

A Friend is prone to psychosis and it is just so so awful as what seems nuts to us is reality for her and always as terrifying for her to experience as for us to witness.

Holding your hand, hoping they can get him assessed by a psych and admitted to the right place quickly (which is near to where you live)

Btw there's a brilliant BBC documentary by the actor David Harewood about how he was sectioned with psychosis in his 20s. It did a lot to increase awareness. Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be available on BBC iPlayer at the moment. But it's a story of hope. I think psychosis is just so much more common than we realise.

How worrying. I hope he gets the help he needs.

A few people sharing their various experiences have mentioned admission and sectioning.

Just wanted to reassure OP that it may well be that your ds won’t need admission and will be able to return home, potentially with medication, family and professional support. There is nothing you have said that would suggest he would need to be assessed under the Mental Health Act or sectioned.

It is positive that he is staying with you in the general hospital and unless I have misunderstood he is not trying to leave or anything like that.

Things have changed massively even in recent years in mental health. If if is safe for an adult or young person to be at home with the right support then this is the most likely outcome.
But yes as someone else said in the meantime look after yourself as well.

DS seems to have a narrative hes cycling through in his head. Have other people found this

I'm really just dealing with the next couple of hours and the next 12 hours. They're keeping us in today and CAMHS were lovely this morning.

Good plan OP taking things a couple of hours at a time.
Have you managed to have a meal yourself? Or even hot drink and a snack please take care of yourself as well,

Glad CAMHS were helpful. Perhaps they might be able to prescribe something to help ds settle or even have a sleep tonight?

Re the narrative in his head, it is common when people have odd/delusional thoughts for them to be repetitive or on a similar theme. It’s good that your ds seems agreeable to staying in the general hospital with you.

I started a new thread but I just wanted to thank everyone on this one. I read it through quite a few times when I could yesterday and even if I didnt respond to everything it was definitely going in.

Lollipop I'm guessing the early intervention camhs mentioned is the organisation from your screen shot. Was it s webpage perchance, I wondered if there might have been more useful stuff on it

Hi @Notagoodnight

I was thinking of you and your ds but didn’t post on the thread again as didn’t want you to feel an obligation to respond as you have other priorities at the moment. Re the screen shot I just did a quick Google as I wanted to give you some idea of what the NHS has available in some areas, hopefully there will be a link below Smile

I will look for your new thread - take care Flowers

Also a reputable charity with a section on the website for young people is:
