I've been invited to write to the Mental Health Tribunal in order to request that, as nearest relative, I take part in DS's appeal (he's on a section and is appealing it). As no-one who knows him will be present, I will of course say that I'd like to and say why. DS doesn't want to turn up - he's asked the ward to appoint a solicitor to represent him.
If anyone's got experience of taking part in an appeal tribunal or can shed any light on them, could you please advise? Should I be clear about what I think would be best for my son or should I suggest that I have an open mind?
I understand that on the morning of the appeal, I'll get a call from the clerk letting me know if the panel want to speak to me or not (by teephone).
On a related note, DH and I rarely, if ever, hear from the community team who were charged with his care before he went (back) into hospital. The Trust prides itself on partnership with carers but this isn't borne out. I know the team is short staffed but even in times of crisis (for DS), we hear nothing and when we do make contact, it's clear that that's not wanted. Maybe with busy teams, that's power for the course?
