Has anyone taken these? Do you recommend I've been on citalpram for 10 years and doctors thinks it's a good idea to change as I'm struggling at the moment

@crispsarny it is good to hear you are getting therapy. I hear you regarding better mental health support. I also think there needs to be ongoing education about MH from school and throughout our lives.
The MH crisis will keep on growing and help to process emotions following trauma as you say is important.
I resisted medication for a very long time and tbh I'm lucky to still be alive and should have tried it years ago. This medication may not be right for me but if that's the case I will switch to another and also explore other alternatives due to perimenopause also affecting me.
I wish you well x

Exhausteddog · 04/03/2022 23:05

I've taken it twice, once when I was 18 for depression (I think I stayed on it for a few years) then after having my 2nd child, I took it for PND. Both times took a while to kick in and I lost weight the first week due to nausea and lack of appetite.

Dr prescribed again a few years ago for anxiety and insomnia. I found it awful and didn't even take for a week. I felt really nauseous and it kept me awake to the point I was getting up to retch (but not throw up) a few times a night. I lost half a stone in a week but even that wasn't enough to make me want to continue taking it.

Frollop · 05/03/2022 17:32

My appetite has declined too and at times feel nauseous. I've only been on 40mg for two days but my head felt awful yesterday...I can't explain the feeling so I'm not taking it today and going back to 20mg tomorrow. I'll speak to my GP and say I want to stick to 20mg or try something else.
For me I've realised I need to keep busy and have positive distraction to also help me manage my low mood and anxiety.

Frollop
Hi there. Thanks for your reply. On the whole I feel better, loads of energy and motivation just sexually dysfunctional which causes more issues! Oh well. Don’t suppose we can have everything 😩🤦‍♀️

drybird · 05/03/2022 22:38

I have just started taking these 20mg. Not really feeling any effects other than drinking lots of water and 🥱 all the time! Going to give it a good try as I certainly need some help. Tried setraline beforehand and they sent me wild.

HeirloomTomato · 05/03/2022 22:46

I was prescribed it about six months ago for a bad bout of insomnia and am starting to come off it now. It really helped me and I'm now sleeping normally enough and am no longer getting panicky feelings when I fall asleep or wake up.

I was nervous taking Prozac because I had never taken any medication like that before. I was only on 10mg / day, because it was mainly prescribed for insomnia, not anxiety / depression, and apparently it's more effective in low doses for insomnia. So maybe my experience is not that useful. I did find it made my insomnia worse for the first couple of weeks and I got some weird symptoms like head rushes and funny muscle twitches but it went away and now I don't notice any side effects at all. Lowering my dose to 5mg / day for the next couple of weeks to come off it entirely in the next month or so.

If my insomnia comes back I would hesitate to take it again, if I had to.

shepabear · 05/03/2022 22:58

I am currently taking fluoxetine, have been for the past 2 months. My anxiety was horrendous, and in all honesty the first month of taking them I became even more anxious to the point that I was having panic attacks and feeling constantly exhausted. But 2 months in and I feel so much better and back to myself again without feeling overwhelmed with anxiety and I have stopped ruminating. I'm not having any side effects now thankfully. It was an awful few weeks but now my body is used to taking them it was worth going through the side effects, although it definitely didn't feel it at the time. I'm glad I persevered.

BottleOfSun · 05/03/2022 23:11

I was prescribed them when I was going through a bad time in my life and they really didn’t agree with me, I ended up having a psychotic episode and incased my bedroom in plastic because I was terrified of bugs and didn’t sleep for 5 days, I got to the point I point blank refused to leave my room because I was intending to walk out under a bus because I was “infected” (I had a rash all over my arms that my gp oh so helpfully said could be bedbugs or scabies so sent me on a spiral - it wasn’t it was stress hives.) Anyways I had my meds switched and felt much better afterwards, strange because my dads been on them for years and they really help him.

Frollop · 06/03/2022 12:11

@friendlygal79 Maybe speak to your GP if the feelings don't change...I hear you about not having everything... it's frustrating!

@BottleOfSun sorry to hear of your traumatic experienceFlowers
Glad you're feeling much better following your meds switch. Can I ask what you're now on?

It's interesting reading all of our different experiences. I hope we are all well and stable long term. I'm considering if I will continue with meds following my experience with the increase. It did make me feel anxious how my head felt. I'll talk to my GP.

crispsarny · 08/03/2022 15:53

@Frollop Thanks for your well wishes Smile I’m glad you’ve benefitted from being on medication, it’s good to hear of others positive experiences. How are you today & did you get to speak to your GP? Sadly like you I’m also dealing with perimenopause, as if things couldn’t get any worse, it just throws another spanner in the works doesn’t it, things get very tricky for me around menstruation although it’s any ones guess as to when that is now, my cycles all over the shop!

crispsarny · 08/03/2022 16:02

@BottleOfSun some doctors really are the worst! Sorry you had to go through that, I can relate as my experience of it was not pleasant. Glad you found something that worked for you Smile

Frollop · 09/03/2022 14:02

@crispsarny I hope you're having a good day.

I've stopped the medication and have an appointment with GP next week which was pre booked. I currently feel ok so will discuss my options with GP next week. I think I may have a break as I've started to be more social again which is helping my mood.

I'm trying to be more thankful for the things I have and create a more positive mindset Which I realise can be easier said then done. Life has changed so much over the last few years and I think this impacted my mood negatively.
I need to find coping mechanisms to help desk with difficult days so I will work on this.

I also have a difficult time around my period so it's annoying not knowing when it will next arrive..

If it's not one thing it's anotherGrin

crispsarny · 09/03/2022 18:14

Hi @ Frollop, glad you’re feeling OK, it’s good you’re being more social again, be careful coming off medication as it can be risky if not done under the guidance of a doctor.

Similar to you last couple of years just put me back so much in my recovery, I was making good progress as the pandemic hit, it’s just been none stop spanners being thrown in the works lately so learning to navigate them as best I can so I can focus on the root cause of my issues.

I think at the moment it’s a case of slow & steady wins the race also hoping for the best Grin

Take care Smile

2022IamHavingYa · 09/03/2022 19:53

I’ve taken the last one today of my first 28 day supply. I’m on them for anxiety and PMDD and whilst it’s had loads of positive effects, I’m so tired all the time. I literally sleep for 9-10 hours a night and sometimes nap if I can in the day but still feel tired. I also had a slight fuzzy head, which to be honest, I quite like!

Positives are I’m Sleeping much better, my mood is better and my anger and mood swings this month have been much less. I still have the anxiety but it’s not as bad. I think I’ll keep trying for another month and see how I go.

I’d feel great if I could just get rid of the tiredness

Frollop · 11/03/2022 19:42

@crispsarny slow and steady is the way to goFlowers

I'm feeling better coming off meds but that may be temporary...I'm speaking to my GP soon. Thanks for your advice.

Take care too x

@2022IamHavingYa good that you're feeling the benefits, Maybe speak to your GP about the tiredness. Maybe in time your body will adjust.

Painintheass22 · 11/07/2022 19:59

OP I hope u see this. How are u now? I’m on Citropalm 4 weeks now and I feel I’m getting worse! I hope it eases soon! Just want to feel like me again so desperately.

@bigyellowTpot how are u now? I too suffer so badly with OCD, anxiety and intrusive thoughts.

Relaxing2 · 13/07/2022 20:48

One of my teens takes it. Doesn't have any side effects. Makes her calmer as a general rule and she sleeps better. Less likely to physically assault us now she is on it, but still does sometimes.

Whoatealltheminieggs · 13/07/2022 22:20

Just jumping on this thread. Due to start these as have struggled on citalopram. How have peoples appetites been on these? Mine went through the roof on citalopram. Wondering how these compare ?

jeffersonsam · 18/07/2022 09:55

No, I m never take this Prozac (fluoxetine) pill for anxiety. People should follow some natural remedies to redue their depression, stress and anxiety. This is my point of view. At the same time few people are depending on the doctor advices.
