Itonlytakesonetree · 26/12/2021 01:06

Hi cosmos, I'm awake at the mo

cosmosforall · 26/12/2021 01:07

Hi. I just am having such a weird time. And don't know what to do.

Took my first sertraline today and it was like I was on a ghastly trip.

Sorry pressed to soon! I'm peri menopausal and have been getting more depressed lately despite being on HRT.

It all came to a head this week and put on antidepressants but I'm not sure wether I am depressed or not. I certainly feel very low and to be honest is a bit manic. But I feel so weird.

Just don't know what to do with myself

I've been on sertraline before, it's not the best medicine to start on Christmas Day.

cosmosforall · 26/12/2021 01:11

I'm not going to take it tommorow or Rather today. But what's the alternative? Continue to feel so low and cry for most of the day?

It's a no win situation

My first Citralopram or 15 I thought I was dying. I had a lovely friend who'd been there and held my hand. I swear I felt a million times worse starting it than I did before. But then it kicked in.

Sorry I thought you had already started it, and you was having a bad day.
cosmosforall · 26/12/2021 01:14

I have read that. But I can't take time off work so how on earth do you get through it.

I genuinely thought I was going mad today. And the the physical side effects.

And now I can't sleep.

There has to be more help or a better way through.

Itonlytakesonetree · 26/12/2021 01:14

Think I spelt it wrong. Whatever. Take it, keep going.

cosmosforall · 26/12/2021 01:15

@TikTokBitches I did take it. First one today. It was so horrid though.

My GP prescribed a short, controlled, tapering course of xanax for the first few weeks of Setraline. I find it great now. But there are different-acting antidepressants if Setraline doesn't agree with you.

Itonlytakesonetree · 26/12/2021 01:18

It is utterly awful initially, but some people get through it quickly. 3 weeks for me, but then it was fine.
My therapist described it as bubble wrap and it really was. Persevere, honestly. Best thing I ever did. First few weeks, fucking awful.

wobblywinelover · 26/12/2021 01:18

Take some deep breaths, put som calming music on and see how you feel tomorrow. It might be different

FrazzledMCPremenopausalWoman · 26/12/2021 01:19

So sorry you've had a rubbish day OP. If the downer is intolerable (which it sounds like it is, as you're posting here) I'd try to get an out-of-hours GP appointment for Monday if you can. In the meantime, take care of yourself and just do what you can to keep things as peaceful as possible - practice some mindfulness, eat your favourite things, curl up with a favourite film or book... and just remember it's only temporary. My first month on fluoxetine was unbearably low but it lifted when I switched to citalopram - it's often just a case of working out what works for you.,

cosmosforall · 26/12/2021 01:20

Thank you everyone xxx

Any tips on how to get through either the starting of antidepressants or even just tonight?

Being awake, not able to sleep, agitated and my skin feels like it's burning?

Maybe do something distracting? I find repetitive craft activities helpful if you’ve got any knitting/crochet or colouring.

I don’t sleep. Bed has become a torture place.

dangermouseisace · 26/12/2021 02:02

Audiobooks are good do. Audible is the best thing I’ve ever subscribed to. Even if you can't concentrate on it just having a voice in the ears babbling on seems to.help me feel calmer

@dangermouseisace

How does audible work do you get unlimited audiobooks for £7.99 a month or just one?

dangermouseisace · 27/12/2021 14:10

You get one credit which is one book, but there are lots of “included” content and books too. So you can listen to as many included things as you like. I've listened to some really good “included” things- Derren Brown podcasts, Dracula with Alan Cummings and Tim Curry, another book about County lines etc. And sometimes you get an email saying you can get an extra credit.
