Hi all, I know there have been a few threads on this, but anyone actually had any luck in getting this in England? I know NHS Drs can't prescribe it but what about Private Drs or a Psychiatrist? Any advice would be appreciated?
I have tried other ADs in past but not keen on side effects.

NHS psychiatrists can prescribe it.

I took it for about a year. It does lift your mood but to the point of elation, which can be dangerous for some. Also it gave me terrible cystic acne, not unusual if you look at feedback on US forums.

Thank you. Can I ask what mg you were on? Would a low dose be better for the elation and cystic acne? Was there anything you could take for the cystic acne along side the AD?

I'm on 150mg from private psychiatrist. Been on it since August. Not seen much impact on my mood tbh. I've had no side effects at all.

Thank you. Was it difficult to get it from a private psychiatrist? Are you taking it for depression or anxiety if you don't mind me asking?

I was on 150mg modified release, which is the lowest dose. The medication for that severity of acne is dangerous for people with low mood (it has been linked to suicides), it's not something that could be managed topically either.

As with any medication, you need to weigh up the risks and the benefits. What side effects were intolerable on other ADs?

Oh that is not good. What a horrible side effect.

I find that I get sexual dysfunction with all other ADs ive tried unfortunately.

I get the same thing with SSRIs. All of them have the same sexual side effects. Amitriptyline has been a lot better though, it's an older one and comes with it's own downsides but I find it easily tolerable.

They all have horrible side effects dont they. So amitriptyline is better for sexual dysfunction is it?

@Mackers123 I'm taking it partly as an antidepressant (I also take duoloxetine for my depression). It is also to help with my adhd as I don't tolerate the usual prescribed meds for adhd (I'm also bipolar).

It was very easy to get it prescribed. My psychiatrist (who specialises in adhd as well) suggested I try it for my adhd. I think it helps a tiny bit. It's the first med I've taken that hasn't given me any side effects. Please do ask me anything else if you need to.

Thank so much, that's really kind of you. I am having a telephone conversation with my Dr tomorrow, fingers crossed that goes well.
Glad you have no side effects its always a worry

Have you already tried mirtazapine, @Mackers123? Not an SSRI. I found it free from sexual side effects, unlike SSRIs and venlafaxine which did cause them for me. GP offered to try further SSRIs but didn't seem any point.

Some get weight gain on mirtazapine. I did with it first time round but on balance I could put up with that in preference to the other side effects and while it helped me get myself back on track. This time round taking the same drug years later, I don't seem to be gaining weight. I think partly because I walk a lot more than I used to.

I was prescribed it but I was so worried about putting on weight I decided against it. I can easily put on weight and I know i would struggle mentally if I put on loads of weight
