Can’t recall my therapist but need to find her - help!

I’ve heard from elsewhere that this is not entirely uncommon… could really do with your help.

I basically cannot find my previous therapist. I can’t recall her name, I can’t recall her address, I can’t recall ANY details in order to contact her again. It’s all blanked out. Yet I can remember the room, the feeling, the calm, so much - but no hard facts!!!!

I found her through my old job EAP service and went for six sessions.

I can remember vaguely where she lived, a private home, but I used to get lost each time.

I have been wanting to return for about a year or more, but just cannot find details of “her”!!

I’ve trawled BCAS and my email from that time… nothing.

I am just stumped as to how to find her, bar driving around where she may live… but even then, it was a private house and upstairs in a duplex (Cambridge area, possibly cambourne) so not like her name is “listed” on a wall.

Anything else I can do to check?? She’s obviously accredited correctly as she came up through an EAP programme. I’ve changed companies so I can’t recreate the request.

She had a very gentle disposition and we worked very well, my son had a bad illness and she got me through a difficult coping period … I don’t want to start with someone new again.

Hi OP, you sound stressed out. Having checked the obvious searches to find this lady, I think you have to ask yourself if trawling the streets etc might stress you even further. If the counselling took place sometime ago, it is possible the lady is no longer even doing this work.
I will try and focus your efforts now on finding someone new. Go online, look at people specialities, check their qualifications, and take time to read peoples reviews in order to establish the sort of personality and characteristics that you are looking for. I good therapist should hit the ground running. Best of luck!

Thanks for replying @Lotusmonster! I’m not stressed out to be honest, but I’m aware I need a sounding board right now. I was incredibly - massively - stressed when I was seeing the therapist previously as my son was three years old and had a life threatening illness and was in hospital for 18 months - it was only three years ago yet amongst that chaos she was the person that gave me the space to be heard - and even put words to the fear he might die. It was a time when people would say (well meaning) “don’t think like that, god willing he will pull through” so I had to hide my huge fear, it was a terrible terrible time. She gave me that space.

I just wanted to ask if there was some other directory to use or something, to find her on a listing?

My state of mind is strong and I want to go back to therapy. I know it’s a good healthy thing to do. I also know I clicked with this therapist.

Just wish I could locate her details! I’ve even changed phone since then.

I have been looking for someone new and will just bite the bullet and start again, but there’s no guarantee. Just wish I go back to where I have laid a foundation.

British Psychological Society is the one to reference. Some psychologists carry different qualifications but I’d look for degree level. Cross reference if they work NHS as well as privately. My son has OCD and his psychologist works extensively with NHS as well as privately - she has depth of experience. Check how long they’ve been qualified for too.
Your trauma with your DS sounds v tough OP and I admire you for seeking help - it’s really constructive. Find out what therapies they might offer - the range is big. Everyone talks about CBT which is great but there are practitioners of eye movement, exposure response, DBT, mindfulness etc ….depending on what you think your particular difficulty is. Reviewed many different therapists over the years and to be honest having the variation at times has proved quite useful. Best of luck!

Try this website for counsellors in your area and it might help memory or help you find another therapist.

I'm wondering why your mind/memory has decided to block those details from your mind. Maybe because of the trauma at the time? I also wonder if it is more the environment (the calm you describe) that you are needing rather than this particular therapist. It sounds like you remember this being your safe space rather than this particular person so finding another counsellor could also be an option for you.

Sorry I didn't attach the link x

Unfortunately unless you can remember her credentials you may never find her. She could be HCPC, BPS, UKCP, BABCP or BACP registered depending on her profession and which organisation she sought accreditation with.

I think you may need to accept a fresh start with someone new.

Do you have a diary or calendar that would tell you a date of an appointment? Then you could check your Google timeline and see if you can find her location that way
