Constant headache behind eyes caused by depression

Just wondered if anyone else has experienced this. I know it is a symptom of depression and have in recent weeks realised I’ve been struggling with depression for about 3-4years. I wondered why I was always so tired! Definitely have severe anxiety too, and lots of cramps/pains that go along with that.

I suppose I’m just looking for advice from anyone who has been similar. I have never seen a doctor about this or been prescribed meds. A recent life change has really sent me on a downward spiral and for the first time I’m struggling to hide my unhappiness from my 3 kids who range from teen to toddler. Some days it is incredibly hard to get out of bed. I am very unproductive.

I don’t think talking therapy will help as whilst I was already struggling a new situation is the definite trigger here. But thinking about contacting doctor for meds...

Why haven't you seen a doctor about feeling so low? Depression is nothing to be ashamed or embarrassed about. 1 in 3 people will get it at some time in their life. I've had depression on and off for years, but take antidepressants. (Mirtazapine). I'd rather be on them for the rest of my life than ever feel so bad as I did.

Get some help, you can and will feel better.

I would contact the GP, it could be depression causing the aches and pains, or it could be the constant pain causing tiredness and depression. Either way you need to see the GP and get advice so they can get to the cause and help, you might think talking wont help, but you never know, it might be worth a try.

Thank you for replies. I’m not ashamed. I didn’t see the doctor because I didn’t realise the extent of the problem but looking back I see it now. I’m going to phone the doctor and I’m ready for the antidepressants. Feels a bit scary but I’m hoping it makes a good difference

Well done, that’s the first step. The GP won’t pressure you to do anything you aren’t comfortable with, it will be your choice, but they will at least do tests and give advice. Good luck and hope it helps

I experienced this and to begin with didn’t really make the connection between the headaches, tiredness and depression (I also had a baby and toddler so there was a lot going on) eventually I decided to give medication a try and began sertraline 5 weeks ago. Headaches got worse for a week or two then disappeared - I can’t believe the difference in how I feel, the exhaustion and everything have just gone. I had no idea how physical the symptoms were but it’s been amazing for me! I hope you begin to feel better soon.

Thank you @FreeElf

@Corilee2806 that sounds really encouraging and I feel more positive to think that it might help me to the same extent
