Bipolar sister and Power of Attorney

Hi all

My sister has bipolar. She has recently asked me to do Power of Attorney for her. I really don't want to as I don't have a good relationship with her. I've assisted her to get the professional help she needs but really need a break from her. Limited family - parents both dead and other sibling does not want to be involved. Can anyone who has experience of this suggest ideas for an attorney? Thank you.

POA would only come into effect if shes lost capacity to make her own decisions. Ie if she is very unwell. It’s a big thing to trust someone with.

No judgement here- mental illness is bloody awful. But, if she was really unwell eg in hospital would you still say no involvement? Sometimes it's just so someone can let the benefits agency know, or phone the bank to arrange paying the electric, or give an opinion on a decision.
If she has a friend she really trusts that could be an option.
You can just say no. If it's too much for you to take on it's best to be honest.

Thanks for the reply. I'll give it some thought.
