Male doctor to talk about antidepressants because of very bad PMS. Would a female doctor be better?

I posted before about possibly starting antidepressants - I am very nervous and hesitant about it - and got some really good advice.

After another night waking up in the middle and then spending hours awake re-writing the past, I decided to call the doctor this morning.

The way my surgery works is, you call at 8am for a same day appointment, you don’t really get them in advance.

I have been given an appointment this afternoon and I’ve looked it up and it’s a male doctor. I can’t help but think they maybe won’t get the period stuff as much as a woman?! Is that a silly thing to think?

(My depression happens 10 days / 2 weeks before my period, I feel okay ish for the other two.)

I am so nervous about the antidepressants and getting the right type at the right time. Should I call and request a woman? (The answer will probably be there are none free and I’ll have to call back on Monday, is my guess!)

I've always found male doctors to be a good deal more sympathetic than female when it comes to gynae stuff.

Yes, I have always found male doctors to be more sympathetic about PMS. Some female doctors are dismissive about it.
