Is this common practice for a mental health patient. My nephew is on two weekly and the pick up stresses him out.

It can be normal, depending on individual circumstances. Can DN get his medication delivered?

bobandhisburgers · 06/09/2021 22:01

I think it depends on what the medication is. In the past my Dr would only prescribe me antidepressants every 3 weeks due to the possibility of people attempting to overdose. Paying for a prescription every few weeks was the annoying part.

Yes, if they think he may be a suicide risk then they will try to make sure he never has enough at any one time to kill himself.

Yes this is incredibly common, I have even known of some high risk patients having daily pick ups. Could someone else pick up on his behalf? Pharmacies offer delivery but a lot are charging now as there is no funding from the NHS for drivers/van costs.

Yes, it's good practice if there's a chance of overdosing.

bobandhisburgers you can get pre payment certificates which would be cheaper.

XenoBitch · 06/09/2021 23:28

I am on weekly

SpittinKitten · 06/09/2021 23:39

I get a weekly dosette box delivered, which suits me fine; I used to get monthly batches of everything dispensed separately, which really didn't work for me.

WantStickyBean · 07/09/2021 07:44

Yep, I'm on fortnightly. Just order it online through the pharmacy website and it comes through the door. Prepayment certificate so it's not too expensive.
