My oldest dd 27 clearly has an eating disorder. She looks very underweight isn’t eating much. I used her iPad and it had a bmi checker and it had 16.8. Which is assume is her bmi. Is this really bad?

If you download the NHS BMI checker, I believe it reads she is in the 'underweight' category. I was there and lower 18months ago and getting into the anorexia zone. She needs help to recognise that she is starting to compromise her health... weakening her immune system....reducing bone density and liver functions- to name but a few. If she were to get a serious illness, eg covd, she hasn't got a lot of reserves to fight it. It can also affect fertility etc... the list goes on.
'Denial' is a clear symptom an an ED- and the belief that you can turn it around whenever she wants. It is a coping strategy to numb the emotions and deflect from psychological pain, whether she knows it or not.
Contact Beat, the ED charity and the Tabitha Farrer books are brilliant. Encourage her to see a GP?
Wishing you luck OP. You'll be treading on eggshells, but your instincts are right and she needs help to see that she needs help if that makes sense.

Yes, I dirty that’s a worrying BMI. I totally agree with the previous post regarding next steps and sources of support and advice. There’s also an eating disorders board on here it might be worth posting on too.

It’s likely to be a tough time ahead. I hope she gets right help quickly. Flowers
