Would you take this to mean this nurse was implying she was playing games

Dd 21 was assessed after a suicide attempt recently. She said she would be fine at home etc. She then heard the nurse saying that being in a mental health unit wouldn’t help her and that dd was saying all the right things. Would you think this nurse was saying she was playing the system or that he didn’t really care how she felt.

"and" or "but" saying all the right things?

If the former I'd think MHN was saying therefore an inpatient stay isn't necessary. The latter and I'd think MHN was implying your daughter's needs can more appropriately be met at home (because he doesn't believe her level of distress).

If you are on Twitter then I'd suggest you follow Alys Cole King and TraumanotPD for excellent support and info for families around these kinds of issues. So sorry you're going through this.

Sorry need more info eg tone and what your daughter was hoping would be the outcome.

Could mean she was saying she's said all the right things to go home.

Sorry you're both going through this. Thanks

He seemed to want her to say it was self harm as when she said it was a suicide attempt. He instantly said “are you trying to get me to make a decision about hospital” she want she was just being honest.

I have been in this situation, and when I look back when I am well, I can see what the nurse meant etc. Your DD mind might be twisting what is said by the nurse a little.
The nurse can only take what your DD said on face value.. and it sounds like they did, and decided hospital was not appropriate.

I don't know the assessment process but to me that seems like there is enough lucidity to imply that the person is aware of their actions therefore they may have a level of control over their own safety. That would be my guess. It must be such a tricky call to make. I hope your DD is getting the help she needs regardless.

I agree with this.

Op did you post another thread about something else said to your daughter? I think that with the best will stop looking for fault with th staff and stop her looking for it, and try focus on supporting her through this.💐

It sounds like the nurse was just asking your daughter what she wanted to do. Like "do you feel it's better for your own safety to be in hospital or do you feel you're safe at home? Kind of thing. And the "saying all the right things" probably just meant that he felt as though your daughters mental distress wasn't meeting the threshold to be detained in hospital. It's really tricky to balance a patients needs against potential detention in hospital.

That sounds like he wanted to make the situation appear less risky than your daughter wanted it to be. By saying self harm instead of suicide suggests lesser need to go to hospital. It sounds as if he thought she was angling going to hospital and saying all the 'right' things to get herself detained as opposed to going home. So they were perhaps not sure whether to believe her level of distress. What did happen in the end OP?

Maybe the.nurse just felt she would be better at home with community help. What was the outcome.
