My DD (5) often vomits with anxiety, today was her cousins birthday party, she’d never been to a big party before and gets very nervous around other children. She went to football club this morning, gagged when we got out and brought up a little bit of liquid, then when we got home she vomited loads and brought up lots of orange juice she’d drank at football club. She hadn’t eaten that morning but she rarely has breakfast. She said she didn't feel poorly she was just nervous about the party, DH insisted it was anxiety and said we should go, as did all my family. She's eaten fine since, loved the party, yet I'm still on edge now at 6pm. Do you think if it was a tummy bug she would have been sick again?

Yes of course she would. But you really shouldn't have taken her to the party - what if it was a tummy bug?

This is what I said but DH insisted as did my family. Because I have emetophobia I felt like maybe I was over reacting by not wanting to take her as everyone else said she should go. She often vomits from anxiety, used to do it often before nursery and while she was there but staff got to understand her anxiety. I wish I could learn not to panic because every time she's told me it's nerves, it has been

Unless you have a child that vomits regularly I don't think you would understand. I have a child that had cyclical vomiting, it's not a bug and I know when it is normal for them vomiting or a bug, so I would have still gone to the party, we've had many incidents of vomiting before school, if I kept them off all the time I would be investigated. There is a noticeable difference between being poorly. So op I think your family were correct. Hugs though as emetaphobia is no fun

My dd does too when she gets really upset which is caused by anxiety. One of her friends bit her once in a play centre and she was sick all over the place. I had to explain it always happens when she gets upset and they were fine with that. I’d often worry it wasn’t that but she’d always be ok after. With dd it was easier to tell because it always came with crying. She’s nearly 5 now and a lot lot better and more confident. Hopefully yours will stop feeling so anxious once she’s got used to things a bit more. I had terrible emetophobia when I was younger but so much better now.

Thank you. Nursery were very understanding and I'm hoping school will be the same when she starts in September. She suffers terribly with anxiety, and I do know the difference, but I always doubt myself because my own anxiety stops me from thinking straight and I can't relax

DD also vomits when crying! I should really know the difference but I just get so anxious myself that I can't think straight

Ah we’re in the same situation age wise. Dd would be ok for a while with pre school then sometimes start feeling ill in the morning and crying and be sick. We just had to keep on going. I’m also hoping school goes ok and will make sure they know about her throwing up easily before she starts! She did a taster visit where unexpectedly they whisked the kids off and left parents outside and she was ok with it so I’m hopeful we won’t have pukey uniform on day 1…

My DD actually enjoyed her taster session too but was still being sick with anxiety in her last day of nursery! Fingers crossed neither of us have too much pukey uniform!
