Has anyone discussed weight issues with a therapist? Is it worth it to try?

Hi everyone,

I've been having counselling online since January, mainly to deal with anxiety issues, in particular health anxiety. I have been dealing with it on and off most of my life, and my son's birth was what finally led me to getting some help (I don't want to pass down my anxieties to him).

It has helped tremendously and I've decided to stop with the sessions now, but I'm wondering if I should maybe ask for another 2 sessions to discuss my weight issues? It has never occurred to me before to discuss this in therapy as I always just thought it was a physical problem and I'd lose the weight one day, "exercise and control calories..easy". But I've been battling my weight since I was around 9/10 years old and I'm 32 and still overweight, despite being active and knowing what I should do to lose weight.
Has anyone discussed this in therapy and have it help them? Would it be worth it to use two more sessions to discuss this too in case there is a mental health issue hiding behind it all which I am not seeing?

Thanks everyone

Yes, counselling could help you. At least, talk to your therapist and ask them if it's something they could help you with.
