Anyone taken this before or know someone that has? Just wanting to know how people got on with it and if they experienced any of the side effects etc…… Sertraline currently isn’t working 😫

I struggled on it. The mood swings were something else and I eventually had to come off as I was hallucinating. Like, talking to people who weren't there, hallucinating.

Oh that’s not good. Did those side effects stop quickly after you stopped taking them?

I only took it for 2 weeks when I was about 20. It made me want to irrationally break things, which is extremely out of character. It also removed all feelings good and bad.

It wasn't for me.

Took about a month after I stopped but I was on them for a good 4 months or it probably would have worn off faster.

It was the mood swings that lingered. There was this child screaming in primark, about 4, just chucking a wobbly over something or other and I just kept imagining grabbing his hair and smashing his face into the counter until he stopped. It was horrible and scary because it was so unlike me, normally have the patience of a Saint with kids.

I've taken paroxetine/Seroxat for a long time and it works very well for me. I've had none of the side effects other posters have described above. Certainly no mood swings. On the contrary, it stabilises my moods very well and allows me to function normally.

However. It's not a drug that is prescribed very often these days, the newer SSRIs are thought to be better, with fewer side effects and easier to come off.

Our experiences aren't going to be terribly helpful to you, because obviously everyone is different. I think you should have a chat to your GP. Remember, sometimes you have to try a few before you find one that works for you. Best of luck.

I am about to ask my GP to go on it. I tried escitalopram a couple of years ago and I had an absolute dreadful reaction at night to it which was so bad I couldn't work. I stopped right away.

I was on Paxil in my 20s for a year ago and I don't remember any issues, certainly no badly affect on my sleep, so I intend to try it again. Of course, things could change in 30 years, but I hope I will tolerate it better.
