SSRI for ocd?

I think I suffer from a form of ocd. Before I leave the house I check plugs, etc I don’t know how many times. It’s like I don’t believe what my eyes are seeing. Applies in a few other situations too. Would SSRIs help with this?

Yes, Fluoxetine (Prozac) can definitely help. You could try some therapeutic methods too, like CBT. I hope you find a solution OP, you're doing well to recognise an issue.

Thanks. I’ve been prescribed citalopram and escitalopram in the past but probably didn’t take it long enough. Could either of these help or is Prozac better?

Paroxetine (Seroxat) is also known to help with OCD. It's a similar SSRI to Prozac. Talk to your GP Flowers

Missed your second post. Your GP should know, but I know from the patient information leaflet that Seroxat is prescribed for OCD. It's not a drug that's suitable for everyone, but it's worked for depression for me better than anything.

Thanks, my Gp just says it’s trial and error to find the right SSRI…

Yes it is. My GP wanted me to change to Lexapro but it didn't suit, so I went back to Seroxat which does. It's rarely prescribed now, so there must be a modern alternative that works for OCD.

Adult DS, who unfortunately has inherited my tendency to depression, has tried three. He's now on sertraline which is working better for him than the previous two. It really is trial and error.

I'm on Prozac for OCD. Works well. Need biggish dose to start with, maybe 40mg daily.

My husband has been on seroxat and/or Prozac for almost thirty years for OCD and he lives a perfectly normal life as long as he is on it. The only side effect he has is that he sometimes struggles to orgasm. If he knows we are going to be intimate (most likely of a weekend) then he will skip the pill the night before and that seems to help. But this only really started about ten years ago. Is more of a a cumulative effect according to the Gp.
