Sleeping…or not.

I only ever sleep when I’m on medication that makes you sleepier (tricyclics/antipsychotic) I don’t sleep when not medicated. Before they tried me on these things I didn’t sleep properly for years, and couldn’t function. I’m trying to get off all medication (gradually and supervised) but I’ve hit the wall and it’s affecting my work, as I’m so tired during the day. Has anyone else had this issue? I’m feeling pretty hopeless about it and thinking all the GP will do is tell me to increase the dose back again. I’m on an antidepressant as well and I’m sure that makes the not sleeping worse. Any suggestions? Has anyone found a way through?

I’ve found the hypnotherapy/meditation for sleep helps me drop off quite nicely. I used to listen to them on YouTube, now listen to them on my Fitbit app as I signed up for a free premium trial.

My mind doesn’t stop racing and my anxiety is making my stomach churn, but these help me to let it all go and just drift away to sleep without even realising.

Yes, I have had sleep issues for years. I have a chronic autoimmune disease and I think that is part of it.

Two months ago my new GP suggested pregabalin, and it has transformed my life. I suspect it is because restless legs and random joint pains were disturbing my sleep.

I am sure it wouldn't be right for everyone, but it has made an enormous difference for me.

Have you had any investigations into why you are not sleeping?

Thanks for your replies

Xenobitch no investigations but it has always been seen as a mental health issue. It originally started due to nightmares/hyper vigilance. I’m usually physically rather edgy when I’m not dampened down. Even if I’ve done lots of exercise/done yoga etc. Everything gets worse if I’m unwell though. And I’ve had lots of counselling, had mindfulness training (which I use).

MuchTooTired I tried Calm, but I hadn’t thought of YouTube I’ll have a nose…

Lovefall I’ve heard pregabalin is good for physical pain issues, I’m glad it’s working for you! Physically I’m ok.
