My mental health is appalling.

Is it recommended to do a safety plan?

Or is this just for those feeling suicidal?

I have a severe/ acute anxiety disorder and moderate depression. I do have suicide ideation.

I have a trusted source whom I confide in- would it be worth asking her to help
Me to do one? Or would it make me look like a twat?

I don’t know what a safety plan is, I hope you are okay though? Do you have anyone you can talk to tonight?

It is a good idea to have one... try to write it when you are not at crisis point though. Definitely ask your friend to help with it too.

Thank you for your replies.

I will make one.

Do one. If you google “staying well plan mental health” you should be able to find some examples to help prompt what you want to put in

Do you need to do one even if your mental health is shit and you don't have active suicidal thoughts?

For me. It gets so bad sometimes that I actually don't know what to do 😭😭😭😭

You don't have to be actively suicidal to make a safety plan. The worst time to make one though, is when you are. It is best to make a plan when you are level headed. It is hard to think of what might work when you are at crisis point.
Have you heard of WRAP plans? They are more thorough and go into what you are like when well, and what the signs are of relapse etc.

Yes, definitely good to have a safety plan; think of it as giving yourself good advice that you can use when you are less well. Include the contact numbers of safe people and services such as your local crisis team. Also, if anxiety is a big part of your mental health problem, have you heard of an ‘emergency bag’? Essentially, you put together things you know will soothe you, be that a playlist of music, soothing scents, poems - basically anything you can access quickly and when you need it.
