Withdrawal from beta blockers - help

So today I didn't take my final dose of beta blockers as I've been weaning off them as the Dr said I could even though my heart rate is still high, I don't want to depend of them for the rest of my life. I'm 26.

So today my heart rate has been very high, 115 all day and 170 upon walking which is worse than before I even started the beta blockers.... Is this withdrawal? Anyone else experience this? It's worrying the hell out of me.

It sounds like rebound tachycardia. Your heart has got used to the effects of the beta blocker so it's just trying to adjust to being without it. I've experienced the same when withdrawing from propranalol in the past, eventually it settled down. Speak to the GP about it though ; they might recommend a slower reduction.

@Zizizoom thanks for getting back to me. How long did it take for your withdrawal/tachycardia to go? I'm losing hope and it's been less than 48 hours :( x

It's hard to pinpoint exactly but I would say over maybe a couple of weeks things levelled out. Although I'm now back on the propranalol, but only because I was really unwell in hospital last year and my heart rate was dangerously high! Have you heard of POTS? Stands for postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome. I'm waiting to see the cardiologist about possible pots. Have you seen a cardiologist?
