Citalopram to mirtazapine, not sure it’s a good idea?

Hi, I have been on citalopram 30mg for 5 years, a few months ago I started to become extremely tired, no energy, weight gain, irritable and anxious.
Bloods were clear and locum GP recommended dropping dose to 20mg incase symptoms were related.
2 months later, physical symptoms have slightly improved however my mood has dipped massively. I tried to speak with my own GP who knows my history, I have been on and off antidepressants for 15 years. However got a call back from a disinterested GP who said, just drop to 10mg over the weekend and pick up a script for Mitrazapine on Monday and start those.
Reading the side effects online, it appears weight gain and irritability are the main ones! I’m concerned I’m going to start taking a medication that will make my mental health even worse.
Not sure if I should call again and ask to speak to my own GP for reassurance or just go with it, I work full time and can’t take time off if it all goes wrong. 😞

It might make you very sleepy in the beginning , it took me about 6 weeks before I could function during the day (even if I took it at night like you’re supposed to) But everyone reacts differently. I have a love / hate relationship with Mirtazapine. I mostly take it because I’ve suffered from severe insomnia. It does makes me sleep like a baby ( not that babies sleep but you know what I mean lol). It’s also made me more social , probably because it makes me a little bit numb so I don’t really care what other people think about me and I worry less about things.

I do think it makes me more irritable and a little bit mean 😢.
I’ve not gained any weight though,I’m struggling to put on weight (have always been skinny ). In fact I weigh less now then when I started taking Mirtazapine many years ago.
My brother’s friend ( who’s actually a quite famous singer in my home country 😄) loves Mirtazapine and says it’s saved his life.

It’s impossible to say how you’ll react , maybe try it and see how it goes you can always stop! Best of luck ,it’s awful struggling with mental health problems you’re not alone xxx
