Citalopram withdrawal

I've been on this medication for 7 years, I feel ready to come off. I'm slowly tapering my dose but still the side effects are awful. Head zaps, blurry vision, general grumpiness.

I've tried to stop before and failed every time due to awful withdrawal symptoms. Any tips on how to finally get off this medication?

Reduce by VERY small amounts over a VERY long time. I did 5mg less per month. I was on 40mg so a pretty high dose and it took me 8 months. But I had no withdrawal issues - unlike previous attempts when I had followed doctors instructions to half dose in a week!

Hi @Athrawes thanks for your advice. Did you cut the tablets up? That's what I'm trying to do but don't think it's very accurate. I could do with a liquid form, if that's an option.

Cut the tablets up and taper by very small increments over a much much longer period than you would have expected.

For instance reducing by 2.5mg every week. Then when you're down to 2.5, cut them in half again.... honestly

I think I was told to reduce by a TINY amount every few weeks or couple of months. I would only come off it in conjunction with GP advice.
You could buy a pill cutter?
Good luck.

I'm only on 10mg now and trying to come off but my Doctor advised taking one every other day was better than taking half a tablet every day so that's what I'm trying.

Hi. Thanks for all your tips. I'm going to invest in a pill cutter and try reducing in increments of 2.5, I tried to go down by 5mg but the withdrawal symptoms have been terrible.
