Coming off citalopram

MistySkiesAfterRain · 30/06/2021 20:42

I'm tapering slowly off citalopram. Has anyone else experienced these symptoms while coming off:
Fatigue, where you feel tired in your bones
Floaty/whoozy
Lower than normal blood pressure

I'm sure something is not right but I'm not sure when to go to the doctor- wait a week and see, or go for bloods now.

Looking for positive stories of people who came off them and felt fine eventually please Grin

It won't be pleasant, I got "brain zaps" all the time, felt awful and all of my symptoms came back.
You may need to ask your GP to give you something else which is easier to reduce.

@Shehasadiamondinthesky I've heard about brain zaps but I don't know what they are. I don't think I have experienced any. I took an antihistamine last night and slept amazingly. I also cut down to half now, I did my first cut on Sunday so I'm probably going quite fast but I feel so much better for the first two days when I cut, then a bit dreadful after that.

I haven't had a resurgence of anxiety yet. I'm aware when a thought starts to spiral and just let it go iyswim.

I'm doing the same and having the same symptoms.

If I have a bad day I have a higher dose the next morning. Doctor agreed this was a good strategy.

I felt very similar when starting. I didn't phase starting.

Really just posting for moral suopoort

How slowly are you tapering? Tapering by really tiny increments over months is what worked for me.

They are really hard to explain but you'll know one when you get one.

If you were having 'brain zaps', you'd know. Yes, you are going much to fast.

Here for moral support! I tapered off sertraline 2 years ago and found writing every day helped.

I actually had another smaller dose in the daytime, so I've gone back up. Last time with sertraline I went far too quickly. Citalopram is a bit easier side effect wise.

My 15yo has just weaned off cipramil to start a different antidepressant. No side effects. She was on 60mg, and decreased by 10mg every 5 days.

MistySkiesAfterRain · 02/07/2021 09:03

I find it harder if the drop coincides with a hormonal shift, but dropping when I'm in the swing of either the follicular or luteal phase is fine, so I will maybe wait until after my next period and drop another 2.5mg.

My antidote to the feelings coming back is a 20 min walk first thing every day.

I looked at this thread and thought Oh I started it! Forgot.

Well its ups and downs here. I'm still at 7.5mg but I have been ok with skipping the odd day here and there.

I tried skipping two days and that was not good. I've had a PMT meltdown, no sleep and feel like I've broken parts of my brain that were not meant to be broken. Just trying to avert full scale disaster and get through what is a very busy horrible two weeks coming up.

I'm supposed to be meeting a friend for breakfast. Who goes out for breakfast? After that I'm supposed to go to an all day event with the same people until the evening. I will have been out the house with the same people for almost 12 hours. I'm leaving early to go home. There is no need to be out this long. Even if I have not seen them for ages and they are visiting from afar. See, totally reasonable and a barrel of laughs me at the moment.

@Hevsie62 I had fatigue and also insomnia.

I'm also finding myself spending a lot of time online and its just dawning on me that this is related to lowering the dose.

@Hevsie62 I was like that when I came off sertraline, it lasted a few months but did go. Woozy. Look up waves and windows in AD withdrawal. Flowers
