Withdrawal from beta blockers?

I know I have posted here before so I do apologize as I know some of you are sick of seeing my name. I am wondering if anyone has experienced the following as I'm starting to worry.

Since January I have been taking beta blockers, the GP gradually increased my dose since then and a few weeks ago I was take 7.5mg of Bisopronol. My GP said it would be fine for me to starting weaning off them because my heart rate had settled down. (Still resting at 90 though)

So I began weaning off a few weeks ago and I'm down to just taking 1.25mg in the morning. Things were going fine until this morning, I woke up shivering, cold and really tired, I checked my heart rate and just lying in bed it was 107, I went to pee (sorry) and my heart rate climbed to 117.

I was super upset as I have been doing intense cardio since February to try and help reduce my resting heart rate and it hasn't helped me at all :(

My mum has a fast heart. Is it genetics will I be this way forever?

Thanks in advanced x

If your mum is that way, it could just be genetic. I doubt you'll come to any harm. I still think a large part of it is your anxiety and you need to get some counselling and stop checking it all the time.

Cormoran · 06/07/2021 03:43

@Moxxi how do you measure your heart rate? Do you count, use a specific app with the camera of phone, or rely of Fitbit or similar?
What did the doctor say?
How much do you weight?

Has anyone ever investigated why you have a high heart rate?

Moxxi · 06/07/2021 03:54

I use a oximeter and I have a Samsung fitness watch. I used to check it manually but I couldn't stand feeling it fast in my neck.
Dr doesn't seem bothered about me at all which sucks :( last August I used to weigh 107kg now I'm 82kg and it hasn't changed my heart rate at all.

I have had scans and ecgs, blood work and they don't know why it's fast. I just have to accept it and hope it doesn't kill me.

I think it is time to rule out a pheochromocytoma, because you got the description to a t.
It is a benign tumour on the adrenal gland www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/pheochromocytoma/symptoms-causes/syc-20355367

Moxxi · 06/07/2021 06:37

@Cormoran I've had that blood test too. Took ages for the results to come back. I don't have that either. Maybe it's all anxiety? I don't know, I just know it's going to take my life soon. I'm 26

Gosh, they did look at most stuff. What about the microbiome? An overgrowth of Ruminococcus, Streptococcus, and Enterococcus ? www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6543127/

It is a long shot but better than doing nothing?

Moxxi · 06/07/2021 09:26

@Cormoran im not sure about this one.

Can a fast heart cause me to die? I am trying to get off beta blockers right now too as I don't want to rely on them for life. I'm young, I should be having fun not laying in bed shaking xx

Fast heart rates don't cause you to die so don't worry. Is that the only reason you were on the BBs? If so why come off them? Confused

And yours isn't super fast (without medication dd's is 150-180 resting - and her condition isn't in any way life threatening. Inconvenient and cumbersome yes, life threatening no).

Some people have fast heart rates with no underlying cause.

titchy · 06/07/2021 09:37

Incidentally tachycardia is relatively common in young women, and often improves over time. So in that respect you're pretty normal!

Branleuse · 06/07/2021 09:40

maybe youve come off them too quickly

Moxxi · 06/07/2021 10:00

@titchy I just don't want to rely on them, I want to get in better shape and see how I can manage without! Plus they give me really cold hands and feet and my legs feel dead at night time :(

I appreciate your help and advice so much!

Is your dd taking medication for it? What is her heart rate like now? Must be scary! It's difficult when you have people around you saying "you're heart is unhealthy, you're going to get heart failure" - mostly family members saying this to me :(

OP posts:
titchy · 06/07/2021 10:16

But if you have a heart condition you need medication. If you were an insulin dependent diabetic you'd take insulin surely? Heavy periods you'd take tranexamic acid? Transplant recipient you'd take immuno suppresemtn. Take the medication you need and get in with your life. You can't train yourself out of tachycardia syndrome. Confused If the specific medication doesn't suit them ask your GP/cardiologist for something else.

And if the people around you tell you you're going to have heart failure, surround yourself with less ignorant people frankly. Unless they're cardiologists they know fuck all.

Yes dd has medication and expects to continue to do so for years to come. It's just a couple of tablets. No biggie.

Moxxi · 06/07/2021 10:30

@titchy

I think a lot of it for me is anxiety. I think the anxiety is fuelling my heart rate to go up. Someone told me Bisoprolol weakens the heart too, unfortunately I can't find much information on that online. I'm just scared of everything at the moment.

OP posts:
titchy · 06/07/2021 10:37

Bisoorolol doesn't weaken the heart for goodness sake. It would help if you listened to medical people rather than random people who know fuck all.

Whether it's caused by anxiety, or is genetic or is just 'one of those things that people sometimes get', take the medication. Stop focusing on trying to control a condition which is largely uncontrollable. That way madness lies. Focus on controlling what IS controllable - your anxiety.

MissMissTorrance · 06/07/2021 10:45

I take Bisoporol.
I've taken it for 5years.
It doesn't weaken the heart it actually gives the heart a bit of a break (what my cardiologist told me).
From your previous posts too it screams out to me that your issue is anxiety.
I'd keep with the Bisoporol whilst you undergo help for your health anxiety.

Moxxi · 06/07/2021 11:03

@MissMissTorrance what are you taking it for? I am going to try and stick to a low dose for now and see what happens. Hopefully will be able to wean myself off in the future.

MissMissTorrance · 06/07/2021 11:10

I had a couple of episodes of atrial flutter.
I've had tests and my heart is structurally fine etc however I'm staying on them as a kind of insurance policy so that it's unlikely I'll ever have an episode again.
It's doing no harm and it's keeping my heart beat in check.
I'll be happy to take them for life.

Mumma02 · 01/03/2022 22:41

@Moxxi did you ever get any more answers about all this?
