I am considering starting therapy with a Jungian analyst and wondered whether anyone has any experiences to share - good or bad.
I don’t have any serious mental health issues although I have suffered with low-level anxiety and depression at various times in the past. I’m at an age where I finally have the time and money to devote to doing this work.
The main things I feel I need guidance with are some past career trauma, feelings of low self esteem, and general joylessness, as well as probably some unresolved bereavement/childhood issues.
From the little I know of Jungian theory, I know it is very esoteric and verging on whacky in places, but I can’t help but be drawn to Jung’s ideas which are so enchanting and seem to resonate with me on a deep level. I like the way he makes space for the numinous which, although I am not religious, is something I experience innately and would like to explore. I also find the emphasis on symbolism, mythology, archetypes and dream analysis etc so interesting.
But does it actually work as therapy? Or is it total nonsense/ self-indulgent, inaccessible claptrap?
