Stopped beta blocker - help

Hello, I am wondering if anyone can give me some advice. Last Jan I had an episode of high heart rate and ended up in hospital. My resting HR was 101 and when I was active around the house it was between 120-130.

They started me on a beta blocker which I have taken everyday since but they have caused me to have really cold hands and feet and I'm getting fed up with it.

I began exercising (doing a lot of cardio) hoping when I eventually stop the Bisopronol my resting heart rate would come down.

A couple of days ago I was taking 7.5mg of Bisopronol and my GP said I could stop it. Which I have done but my heart rate is all over the place and very fast. I'm really scared and worried as I don't want to die young....could I just be experiencing withdrawal? Or has all the cardio I've done, done absolutely nothing for me.

I have had numerous ecgs and 1 heart scan and nothing abnormal was found.

I don’t know but I’ve been taking the same thing for the last three weeks - only 2.5 mg; my heart rate was too fast but not as fast as yours. My doctor said I should take it till September and then come off it very gradually, even with the small amount I’m taking.

Perhaps it’s too sudden? Have you talked to him about how to come off it? I would try and get an appointment to discuss it and how you’re feeling now.

I do sympathize, the whole thing has complete freaked me out and it’s hard not to be anxious about suddenly dropping dead. (I’m exercising too with the hope of improving my heart rate.)

I am on 2.5mg of Bisoprolol, have been on it for years, I have inappropriate sinus tachycardia with a resting heart rate of 130 untreated and runs of ectopic beats and tachycardia.

This dose has been great for me and I have been really settled on it but my cardiologist told me NEVER to stop it suddenly. It needs to be tapered.

Without the medication my resting heart rate is about 100-103 with the beta blocker it's about 80. I know it sounds daft but I'm scared of coming off them in the future so I would rather do it now... I'm just scared my heart is going to give up, I've heard so many times high rates will cause an early death. I'm 26 and have sinus tachycardia

Might it be worth trying a different beta blocker?

I wish, I wish I could do without a beta blocker. I don't want to rely on medication and they slow my heart rate down. I have been doing intense cardio and I feel it's all for nothing. My heart rate is the same as it's used to be - ridiculously fast. I've just had a cuppa soup and walked to the kitchen to take my mug through and my HR was 132, I don't feel bad with it, I'm just scared it's going to tire out my heart :(

As PP said, you shouldn't stop beta blockers abruptly, you should taper off the dose.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with 'relying' on medication. I'm certainly pleased my asthmatic dad relies on his medication, and my FIL relies on his medication post-heart attack! If the side effects are bothering you just ask to try a different beta blocker, there are plenty of other options.

Don't ever stop taking a beta blocker suddenly. They need to be tapered off.

I would just try another one and honestly OP you need to take off the fitbit. Their hr measurements aren't accurate anyway and I think a large part of the problem is your anxiety which you are fuelling by keep monitoring your heart rate.
