How can the drs leave me like this :'(

This is my resting heart rate according to my Fitbit and if you see the graph is practically above 100 all day. The lowest it got to was 89 in my sleep. Anyone got any advice because the drs say I'm ok but I'm clearly not. I have had a scan of my heart and a 24 HR ECG which just showed sinus tachycardia. I've been this way for 8 years is it going to kill me?

How can this be ok? I am taking beta blockers too since Jan this year but I'm not sure they're working.

Why do you say you're not ok?

Do you have symptoms that make this painful or difficult? Or is it knowing about it that's stressful?

HoppingPavlova · 06/06/2021 11:09

Are you the poster that has also been on here several times about perceived high blood pressure which you don’t believe is being treated either?

What is it about your HR they is affecting you and what part of your medical attention is worrying you?

Moxxi · 06/06/2021 11:13

I don't have any symptoms, just really scared I'm going to get heart failure or something. My resting heart rate shouldn't be 101. I don't know what to do :(

Fitbit is not that reliable
I can measure my RHR by hand a bit lower than Fitbit says mine is.

the rate in your sleep is your RHR., afaik. Not the numbers rest of the day.

Are you just lying around all day? That's the only way you'd expect to have RHR near the asleep one.

lljkk · 06/06/2021 11:16

What other health problems do you have, OP? Anxiety or Obesity, maybe?

Thesagacontinues · 06/06/2021 11:18

I just did a google of sinus tachycardia and it said that though the resting heart rate is high, the heart beats properly. Causes include anxiety and stress, which it sounds like you have.

Did your cardiologist put you on the beta blockers? And when are you booked in for a review?

Moxxi · 06/06/2021 11:19

No I've not posted about my blood pressure ever. Blood pressure is fine.

I was obese. I have now lost 24kg and still have these rates. I have anxiety but I don't think it's bad enough to cause this right?

OP posts:
DNTSleepingDragons · 06/06/2021 11:21

Yes your anxiety is bad enough to cause this. You keep posting about it and I’m not sure what advice you want. Are you waiting for someone to agree with you? Do you do any exercise? Regular exercise will lower your RHR.

legotruck · 06/06/2021 11:23

My resting heart rate shouldn't be 101. I don't know what to do :(

Put the Fitbit in the bin for a start.

Moxxi · 06/06/2021 11:24

I'm sorry guys, I will try to stop posting, I'm just so scared. I started exercising is February, fast walking for about 40 mins everyday, last week I also adding in 20 minutes of rowing as I bought a rowing machine x

Anxiety & sedentary lifestyle & still being overweight would explain your numbers. (Dr. Google says) The ST condition is benign for most but can put strain on heart -- to help protect your heart, need to consider all aspects of a healthy lifestyle, esp. things you can modify like physical exercise, not smoking, cultivating a positive outlook, etc.

lljkk · 06/06/2021 11:25

Show us your rowing machine? I fancy one, if I had room.

NameChangeHidding · 06/06/2021 11:30

I don’t think that people should be so dismissive of the OP.
The OP has been diagnosed with tachycardia by her GP so her Fitbit isn’t that off the mark.

@Moxxi, I’m hoping you’ll come back to this thread.
I had a similar situation except I was told that ‘I was just anxious’.
Turns out that it was peri menopause.
Can I ask if you are over 40?

legotruck · 06/06/2021 11:36

The point is OP has been diagnosed.

Lots of articles about heart rate and anxiety, like this one;

www.insider.com/how-can-i-lower-my-heart-rate-from-anxiety

Or try this video from the amazing Hank Green;

Bottom line is that once you tackle your anxiety - either by medication, counselling or a combination of the two - your heart rate will either come down or you will accept that it isn't an issue.

Moxxi · 06/06/2021 11:37

I'm 26 years old. Thanks for being so kind @NameChangeHidding. I appreciate you. I am not really sure what to do. I am going to keep exercising and changing my diet but what if it never changes for me :( xx

50 to 101 is normal. I have a fast hr always have done. I usually panic Dr's etx whenever they check it. I'm fit and healthy and normal weight. Each of us is different and worrying isn't going to help. Get some propranolol if you start having palpitations from anxiety

SomeKindOfFloppyWeirdo · 06/06/2021 11:38

@Moxxi I have similar levels, and I’m also on beta blockers. I’ve had quite a few hospital/consultant appointments including a heart scan, and my heart is completely healthy Smile

I’ve been diagnosed so far with inappropriate sinus tachycardia, but have been told (plenty of times!) that it’s not life threatening, it’s not going to “wear out” my heart and it’s not dangerous. I’m still under investigation for why it’s happening, so not much help there, but I just wanted to reassure you that it’s not necessarily a sign of any serious problems. In my case, the reason from the high heart rate isn’t connected to the heart itself.

Consultant has advised keeping active ass much as possible - it can be hard when you try to exercise but your heart rate shoots up and you can get dizzy/out of breath, but I just try to start with something achievable and work my way up.

Do you have any other strange symptoms, like fatigue, joint pain, overly flexible joints or anything like that?

I know it’s really frustrating to live with, and even more frustrating that the doctors don’t have any solutions Flowers

SomeKindOfFloppyWeirdo · 06/06/2021 11:40

Would be good for people to keep an open mind too re anxiety. Op’s symptoms may be caused by anxiety, but my very similar ones are absolutely not. It’s not the only reason for a high heart rate, and it’s quite dismissive to say “it’s just your anxiety”.

Moxxi · 06/06/2021 11:41

@SomeKindOfFloppyWeirdo thanks for much for the reassurance. In scared I'll have sudden cardiac arrest or develop heart failure at a young age. Luckily I don't get many symptoms just a bit of dizziness when I get out of bed in the morning xx

TaraR2020 · 06/06/2021 11:42

Op in addition to advice from other posters i really think you should speak to your gp and tell your worries and fears to them.

  1. they should answer your questions about your condition and reassure you
  2. it sounds like you need additional mh support which they can provide, let them see how upsetting you find this

Losing 24 kg is fantastic. I’m assuming you aren’t now dangerously underweight instead?

DH found it took about two years for his heart rate to come down to a ‘new normal’ after a procedure, so it could be that yours is taking a while to adjust to the new you.

I also fancy seeing a picture of your rowing machine if you get a chance!

Rfjkf · 06/06/2021 11:50

Why do you think the doctors are wrong? Mine was 118 yesterday when the hospital checked it and I'm not in the slightest bit concerned. It sounds like anxiety is your problem not your heart rate

Moxxi · 06/06/2021 11:51

Of course. I'll drop a picture of my machine when I go upstairs. Thank you. I will keep trying everything I'm doing. I'm still 86kg. Want to get to 70 x

OP has had a heart scan and 24hr ECG. That doesn't mean it's anxiety but it almost certainly rules out anything other then the tachycardia which was diagnosed.

It's also quite telling that OP has posted this in the mental health section.
