Hello, I am wondering if anyone here can help me. I am 26 years old and have anxiety and a really fast heart rate. Jan 1st 2021 I was taken into hospital because my heart rate was 172 lying in bed. After many many tests they could see why it was so high and I spent a night in for observation. Whilst I was in there I was put on beta blockers Bisopronol. Now 6 months down the line my heart rate has come down a lot, not sure if it's the walks I've been doing, the medication or a combination of both. After leaving hospital I had a 24 HR tape done which showed my average heart rate throughout the day was 101 which a max reading of 160 and a low reading of 72 - whilst sleeping my heart rate averaged at 80 (which seems too high for me) in march I had a heart echo scan which came back as normal too.

Now my new Samsung active smart watch says my resting heart rate is 80 and through the day my heart is around 90-100 when doing bits and bobs around the house.

When I go out for my walk in the morning my heart rate gets to 160 max but I do up some very steep hills.

I am absolutely terrified that I'm going to die really young or get heart failure at a young age. Can anyone let me know if they're similar to me?

I used to weigh 107kg now I'm 86kg and going to continue losing weight.

Have you spoke to your doctor about your concerns? Which part is making you so worried?

It sounds like the beta blockers are doing their job and your current rates are not far from mine - Im 31.

Well done for getting seen by the dr and getting beta blockers- maybe the next step would be to go back and ask for some more help, maybe antidepressants which could help with your anxious thoughts and feelings - the constant panic you're going to die is consuming, I know, but with some help, maybe CBT or talking therapy you can learn to calm your brain down, think calmly and manage your unwanted thoughts.
Think you've done that right thing in starting to loose weight and look after yourself a bit better it will all help in the long run.

Thanks for getting back to me. I have spoken to my Dr countless times but they don't seem to want to help me anymore. I am on the waiting list for CBT I just not sure if my heart rate is going to kill me so young :( I am doing everything in my power to get into shape and eat better. I've lost a lot already but I want to lost 10kg more

A high heart rate when exercising isn't necessary bad. It does have to oxygenate your blood after all. How fast the rate comes back down to your normal is more important. That depends on your current level of fitness and body size. It could be 10 mins or 30.
Do you chest breathe or abdomen breathe? If you put a hand on both the hand on your abdomen should move before the hand on your chest to get air deeper into the lungs. I only know this because I has asthma as a kid and used to chest breathe i still remember being about 7 and the doctor showing me how to practice breathing properly. But I am lazy and still chest breathe when exercising or nervous. It's a bad habit.

To be honest @chocolateorangeinhaler I am more worried about my heart rate when I'm sat on the sofa watching Netflix and it's 90 I don't feel particularly anxious just chilled out and if I have a sip of water it goes up quickly to 100 bit drops back to 90 very quickly. I definitely do chest breath after doing the test you recommended. Thank you, people keep telling me the heart is strong and I'll be fine even if it's 100 all day but I can't see the logic in that tbh :(
