Does anyone else get easily overwhelmed?

To an extent, I've always been a bit like this and I feel it has held me back in life.

I've got worse recently with various family stresses.

For example, when, on one day this week, my son refused to cooperate when I was trying to get him a to have a passport photo taken and my elderly father wouldn't seek help for a medical problem, which was clearly urgent, I found myself feeling totally burnt out. I couldn't think straight and felt an overwhelming tiredness where I just had to lie down.

Yes I do - feel like my coping resilience is lower now due to Covid!

It's an extra stress that's always in the background, isn't it? I have had one jab and have another one in a couple of weeks but there's always some curveball thrown in with this virus.

I try not to watch the News too much as it is too depressing

Yes, I do too. I get so overwhelmed by the smallest thing. I feel Ike a total failure as an adult.

Another thing I don't like is too much planned. I can only handle one thing a day

@thebeesknees123 Not planning too much in a day is a great approach. Our brains are designed for survival and can struggle in today's modern world with the dozens of decisions we are faced with each day (just choosing which packet size loo roll with all the different pricing options iavailable s enough to send anyone into a tailspin!)

Taking deliberate action is a great way out of overwhelm. Take a decision and move on and don't let yourself get sucked back into re-making the decision.

Hope this helps?

Thanks. I agree. I don't think today's society is designed that way. I've never been able to multitask

I am prone to this when I am stressed or sleep deprived (my DS is 8 weeks old, so I am currently both of those things all the time!!). It is tough, take care OP x

thebeesknees123 · 07/06/2021 14:59

Oh yes, sleep deprivation does not help at all because then I cannot think straight. I feel a bit of a fraud because my kids are much older! Mind you, they keep me awake in other ways

Thanks AnnaCharles, I’m going to try that.

I can totally relate OP, I feel the same. As a PP said, i think the the constant background stress of it all doesn’t help.

AnnaCharles888 · 12/06/2021 08:18

@Hollytreenew it really also helps with something I call 'decision debt'. The more half-made, not-really-committed-to decisions we carry around in a day, the heavier/harder things feel.

Hollytreenew · 12/06/2021 17:09

Thank you, a really good way way of putting it.

Hope you feel better soon OP.
