Psychotherapy

I'm just off to work, I work full time and have time off for psychotherapy one afternoon a week. I have to take annual leave.
I can't go back to work afterwards because I'm usually too upset so I go in the afternoon and then go home.
Trouble is I feel I'm getting worse not better talking about what happened.
I've just been feeling awful dredging all this stuff up again.
I don't know if this is a normal part of the process. Anyone else had psychotherapy?

How long have you been in therapy? For me the first 5 months (once a week) were really tough and then it got better. But I think you need to mention to your therapist what you feel like after sessions. They will be happy to help.

I don't want to bring you further down but psychotherapy made me a lot worse. I was in my early 20s so probably didn't have the confidence I have now to tell the therapist how I was being affected. It was supposed to bring everything up, deal with it then 'pack it all away in a box'. We'll it never got packed away! I then ended having CBT in my late twenties which I found far more useful for giving me tools to deal with my thoughts and feelings. I definitely recommend telling your therapist how you are feeling following the sessions. All the best xx

Yes. It is difficult, things come up that you haven't dealt with in the past and it is as if they are present. It has to be done though. You will get through this.

It's a pity you can't have an evening appointment, straight from work. Then you wouldn't have to take so much annual leave.
