Sertraline...yes or no

I am speaking to GP later and I think I am going to prescribe sertraline.

Been suffering for months with crippling anxiety, mainly health anxiety. It is affecting my whole life; work, relationship with DH and friends.

I am a bit worried about starting sertraline...any one taken it and can tell me a bit about if it worked/how it made you feel

First 2-3 weeks it made me feel really anxious but this settled down, the GP was great as I called a couple of times as I worried if I should stop taking it. I would ask the GP what side effects you might expect.

It's really helped me, but if it doesn't work for you there are others they can try.

Thank you @MuddleMoo
If you don't mind me asking, how long have you been taking it for

Hey have a look at the sertraline hand hold thread also on the mental health board. I don't know how to copy a link when I'm on the app, sorry!

But there are lots of people there who have been taking it for varying amounts of time.

I've been on it for almost 3 months now and the side effects had all but disappeared (bar tiredness which did go but took a bit longer) after 2 weeks.

I'm on the lowest dose at the moment but going up soon. It's having a positive effect for me even on the lowest dose, which gives me confidence that a higher dose will be even better!

And if it doesn't work for you, or doesn't suit you, there's always something else you can try :).

I've been taking it on and off for years when my anxiety gets out of control. GP usually suggests 6 months. The key for me is to try and get my anxiety under control with CBT while I'm on it. Then I can come off with GPs help.

As @LindaEllen says there is a sertraline hand-hold thread (sorry not sure how to link either). It can be tough but once initial side effects are over it's been so helpful for me at least.
