Hi all been reading all the threads on AD's I have a telephone doc appointment tomorrow and and going to ask for anti depressants but not sure which one to ask for given my situation.
Hoping others similar to me can give experiences?
I have tried everything else- yoga, CBT, exercise, gratitude, connecting with others nothing has worked so am desperate now.
I am on HRT, thyroid medication and have M.E
After having covid have been told it either Long Covid or M.E ( had M.E on and off for 9 years but was very well until April last year)
I am crying all the time, feel ill all the time, should not be depressed as have a lovely DH. I am not working at moment. Would love to but not well enough. No pressures of kids as they are grown up.
But feel hopeless have instrusive thoughts no energy or enthusiasm even on days where I am not too bad healthwise. I sleep 12 hours a day. What AD will help me with motivation and energy. Worried I will end up on one that makes me tired? Thank you all

Hey :). You don't need to come up with one to ask for. It doesn't work like that. You'll just tell your GP your symptoms and what's affecting you the most, and they will suggest and prescribe one for you to try.

Often, ADs are a bit like trial and error, with which one to choose, and then which dose of the chosen one. But your GP is the one who needs to guide you, not the other way round.

You've taken the first step in reaching out for help, so well done for that. You are on the path to feeling better!

Bear in mind though that Sertraline made me feel tired (like, horrendously tired) for the best part of 3 months. Then it lifted. So don't give up on it too soon as it can sometimes pass!

Thank you that is good advice. I think I am worried that I will be fobbed off again but I really have done everything now to get well physically and mentally.
At this point am not sure if it depression ( was on wrong thyroid medication dose for 6 months and ended up very hypothyroid for 6 months but have been properly medicated for 7 weeks now although I am sure it didnt help.
My HRT is correct dose so not that. Lockdown is hard but everyone the same? I am having difficulties with DH family but nothing that isnt sorted or giving me problems day to day.
I know struggling with health problems can cause depression but I just feel worse mentally every passing week. I literally cry now for no reaon feel very hopeless. Become very lazy too. If I didnt have to shower or get dressed I probably wouldnt bother. My family are worried too and know how hard I have been trying to get well. I am really out of options and feeling like I just dont want to be here anymore and am a burden

Just tell them you want to try medication. They will pick the one they think is most suited to you.

Thank you yes I guess being anxious is part of feeling like I going to get ket down again.
I dont think I been well for about 5 months really. Would try anything at this point

A lot of it is trial and error. Ive tried a few different ones and always felt they had too many side effects so was reluctant to try again until it got really bad. Now im on prozac and im amazed it seems to work really well for me without as many side effects.
Its quite individual though, as ds1 is quite happy on citalopram, whereas it absolutely floored me.

Mintypylonsfryingsurplus · 07/03/2021 12:32

Thank you how long do you give each one a go before giving it up and trying a new one? Again I realise I am being pessimistic due to current mental state! I realise its going to take time but worried that AD will not work when I have tried everything else. I so want to get it right. Another set back might cause another downward spiral

Usually a couple of months. The side effects subside in about 2 weeks and it takes about 3 months to feel the full benefit of them. It varies from drug to drug though.

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 07/03/2021 17:32

Do try and manage your expectations though. It took me about 6 different ADs to find one that worked.

Mintypylonsfryingsurplus · 07/03/2021 20:35

I really dont mind if it takes a while as long as if something works eventually. I really cant feel any worse..

My doc was very understanding and have been offered citalpram today so will give it a go. Review in 3 weeks time.

It depends really. Its worth giving them a few weeks if you can tolerate the effects.

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 08/03/2021 21:51

I had Citalopram for a while. Wait till you get the dreams! Grin They make you dream really vividly, not bad dreams just normal but they're really clear and realistic and you wake up thinking wtf?

Shieldingending · 08/03/2021 22:03

Citalopram helped me a lot, in fact I'm thinking of going back on them! Hope they help you OP

MajesticWhine · 08/03/2021 22:46

Citalopram helped me in the past. Make sure not to skip a day.

Mintypylonsfryingsurplus · 09/03/2021 08:56

Thank you all I am starting on 10mcgs to ease in and doing some research too. Fingers crossed they work...
