How long before you felt slightly more normal?

I was on Citalopram for 2 weeks which made me really ill so switched to Sertraline which I have now been on for 2 weeks and don’t feel as sick. So roughly week 4 of medication - I don’t feel as tearful but still very tired, flat and like I just want to be left alone. I’m not looking after my self, getting dressed or leaving the house as I just can’t face it. The kids haven’t been for a walk or to the park for weeks and I feel awful about it. When did you start managing the basic things again?

I only started to feel better on sertraline once I took a month off, tidied my home, started to exercise and ate healthier then I was great. It really affected my motivation though the whole time I was on it. Talking therapy helped. With citalopram I was so tired for 4-6 weeks and almost gave up then it did start to work, maybe stick with sertraline and just try for really small changes?

I have got on OK with 50mg sertraline - but it is very common to find the first couple months tough and feel worse.

I would book a phone call with your GP to discuss it.

@MistakenAgain I’m already on maternity leave and will go back next month so taking time off isn’t an option. I’ve been home schooling too which hasn’t helped. Although I guess they go back soon so that’s one less thing to be working through.

@partyatthepalace I had the odd day when taking the Citalopram where I felt ever so slightly ok but couldn’t continue with sickness and dehydration. I do feel very up and down but was hoping I would be having slightly more motivation by now.

Hello - yes, I can't speak for motivation but I do know LOADS of people warned me you can end up feeling a lot worse before you feel better. So I think it's worth having an update conversation with your GP so they can reassure you and set a timetable for seeing it it's working -

Thanks for your replies. I’m guessing I was lucky to get a few good days and this feeling rubbish is possibly the common feeling worse before getting better. I’ll phone the GP and just see what they say in terms of time scale like you suggested. Thanks for the suggestion.
