Such thing as cheap counselling?

Does anybody know of any free/cheap options for counselling in the UK? I have been through insight healthcare which is NHS run but they only offer over the phone sessions but I really want face to face. However I have a very low budget at the minute. Any suggestions or recommendations please

Would you be ok with a zoom style meeting? I know the nhs do offer those

OddBoots · 11/02/2021 19:38

Some people can have it offered through work, is that possible for you?

I don't think anywhere is offering face to face at the moment.
Are there any mental health charities in your area? They might offer cheap counselling.

Yes, training organisations often have a low cost clinic. You might get a trainee but they will be getting a lot of expert supervision. At the moment everything is still online, so take your pick.

Exercise live we have a community counselling service, it costs £1 per £thousand you earn. Ask your GP?

Or trainee counsellors, as mentioned but not sure how you'd access?

Not exercise - should read Where I live!

A lot of counsellors offer a sliding scale fee. My counsellor charges £50 to £80 depending on time and day. He sees me for £40 because I'm struggling for money. He doesn't advertise that he does this but offers it to people he can see need it.
Best thing to do is make a shortlist of counsellors you can almost afford and call them and ask about whether they offer this. Counselling-directory.org.uk is a good place to start looking.
