I suffer from bi polar dosorder and anxiety. I have seen weighted blankets advertised for children and those with ASD, but I wondered if it would help me sleep. Also wonder how hot they make you, as I'm peri menopausal. Any advice or experiences gratefully recieved

Hi, OP! I don't, but wanted to for a long time, so bumping this for you!

I have been and its lovely however I overheat if I try and sleep all night with it.

I tend to use it before going to sleep until I'm nice and relaxed. Or after work on the sofa.

Same here, I have an 8kg and love it when I get into bed but I do overheat. It’s great for settling me back to sleep if I wake though.

I do, I have C-PTSD and suffer with insomnia and nightmares and it’s absolutely brilliant. Also helps me in the daytime if I’m triggered and overwhelmed I get under it and it really soothes and grounds me. It’s the best thing I’ve ever bought myself. I don’t get too hot but then I’m always cold. Mine is Sherpa one but you can get cotton covered ones which I assume must be cooler.

Thank you folks, I might just invest in one 🙂

I have anxiety and although I do have a weighted blanket, I tend to find the weight of it a bit oppressive. I know lots of people have found them really effective so I'm not trying to talk anyone out of it, just sharing my experience.

I do find my heated throw really comforting sometimes, though. Warmth has a really calming effect on me and I do find it quite effective at easing my anxiety. It's a normal weight blanket, just gets really warm (if you want it to - very controllable). So that might work for those who aren't a fan of weighted blankets.

Same here. I don't have a weighted blanket as such but I do layer up blankets over my duvet. Currently I have a duvet, two blankets, a fleece and then my dressing gown on top for extra warmth! It helps me sleep because I feel cocooned (and therefore safe? I dunno) in my bed. I also like my feet weighted down which is weird sounding but I stay awake if not. I pile up my clothes at the end of my bed and shove my feet under the pile (under the covers) and I nod off!

No. I always end up pushing my duvet off or using a summer duvet in winter as the weight of a winter duvet is too heavy so a weighted blanket would stress me even more.

WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 08/02/2021 20:40

I love mine! I don't overheat with it either. I've got a gravity blanket with the 'summer' cover and I use the cotton side unless it's really cold in which case I flip* it over.

*by flip I mean turn slowly bit by bit because it weighs 10kg Grin

I love mine.

I use mine when I want to relax during the day sometimes but when I tried to sleep under it I had to take it off and put the duvet back on! Don't underestimate how heavy they are either. They're a bit of a pain to move around!!

Pickles89 · 08/02/2021 21:37

I love mine! Only had it since Christmas but couldn't be without it now. It's woven so lots of air circulation going on.

YouhavenoauthorityJackieWeaver · 08/02/2021 21:39

I love it! Makes my restless legs go away. I feel so secure and relaxed I usually struggle to fall asleep but if I'm using it I fall asleep in 5 mins I don't know how it works but it does

ginandbearit · 08/02/2021 21:40

I bung a few heavy towels and blankets on the end of my bed to cover feet and legs if Im feeling unhappy or stressed ..feels comforting and soothing .

Beamur · 08/02/2021 21:41

I got my DD one of the lighter ones and it has a washable cover. It's not big/warm enough by itself but is fine with a thin duvet or bedspread. She doesn't like to be too warm - loves the gentle pressure of the blanket. She says it does seem to help her get back to sleep.
