Someone very close to me is currently very unwell, is struggling to stay safe and is having hallucinations. They have adhd which they're still waiting medication for. He's been referred to the crisis team to see a psych today and he's worried that he may need to be admitted. I know the bar is high for admittance, but does anyone know if it's likely he will be admitted? Thank you.

Hi, I hope the appointment went well. Usually hospital admission is for people who might be a risk to themselves or others so it would probably depend on what the hallucinations are and if there is a risk because of them. Or if for some reason they were worried about starting or changing medication at home. Either way, I hope he gets the help he needs as that sounds like it must be scary for him and hard for you too. There are lots of different medications that can help hallucinations. Take care

Thank you. He wasn't admitted. He's waiting to hear back from the psych so he can be medicated for adhd as this is the cause of his mental health problems. It is bloody hard work and I'm currently feeling a little overwhelmed (I have asd) so am struggling with seeing him more frequently as he really needs the support to keep himself safe. Once he's medicated, I'm going to tell him that I need a couple of days alone to decompress.

Hi Mabelface, just came on here to look for advice about a family member in the same situation - also having very distressing delusions, but exacerbated by substance abuse. As pp has said, the bar for admission is very high, particularly at the moment with everything else going on. The crisis team may be able to provide phone support or doorstep visits to check on meds, so hopefully that will be in place soon.

You're completely right in taking a couple of days to decompress - it's such an upsetting and stressful thing to deal with and you need to avoid making yourself ill. I've had to get counselling for myself to talk it through with someone professional.

You couldn't make this up. The mh liason team discharged him back to the gp with no follow up, bar the adhd team. Spoke to his gp last night who is fuming and will refer him again, and ask why he was discharged when clearly still in crisis. Gp prescribed some sedatives to keep him calmer in the meantime. I hate seeing him like this. He's a lovely, gentle and kind man.
